Your email has been received and it was being discussed when I was there this morning – you will no doubt receive a formal response in due course.

I understand that they may be able to offer some assistance, however some cowling spares were moved on to another group a while ago. When I left some ‘fevered searching’ was under way! 😉

To whet a few appetites for Cockpit-Fest 2012 I’ve arranged for the first of two albums to be uploaded here.

This shows those cockpits that were exhibited externally at the 2011 event.

Before Christmas I hope to get a second album added to show the internal displays & a few winners!

It might be worth contacting the curator at Newark Air Museum – several years ago they had a quantity of Heron spares shipped back from the West Indies; not sure what remains in ‘stock’.

His direct number, email etc can be found on this page!

Winthorpe Research Appeal

Late yesterday an appeal was posted on the museum website seeking information about pre-World War II Winthorpe & the airfield construction. This is for some possible new site interpretation panels that the museum is applying for funding for.

In addition a variety of emails have been despatched to the normal research contacts requesting the same information; these include: Local History Groups, A.R.G, Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd etc. Does anyone about these parts have any information that may help?

I’ve just been talking about Stan with my son; who reminded me that Stan recorded some video interviews about his service career that were included on the Virtual Museum CD ROM that Newark produced about 10 years ago. So if anyone still has a copy they can hear some of Stan’s recollections told with his distinctive South Yorkshire lilt!

It was indeed; Stan logged several Ops on Lancaster R5868 ‘S’ for Sugar that is displayed at Hendon and as Instructor at Winthorpe he survived three separate crashes!

He was very humble and he had a wonderful sense of humour; he will be greatly missed.

A short restoration update has been uploaded onto the NAM website News Page – it’s mainly to do with the Monospar and the Mooney fuselage, which has been moved again!

The Barry Jones book “Avro Shackleton” published by The Crowood Press in 2002 (ISBN 1 86126 449 6) contains the written 8 Squadron character references for each appropriate airframe in the Shackleton Production section – Appendix II.

These are also listed in full on page 152 in Chapter Ten – “ AEW – the 6,848-day ‘Interim Solution’ ”

Broadly speaking they tally with your post #1 but sadly there are few pictorial references.
