Newark Air Museum was fortunate to be on the flypast route this morning; mentioned here! Closely followed by two Nimrod passes!! 🙂

jg – missed the original question having paid more attention to the date mentioned rather than the location. 😮

WK277 arrived at Newark in 1969 after Dizzy Addicote had abandoned his plan to convert it into a ‘jet car!’

Prior to arriving at Newark it is traditionally described as having been stored in a garage!

Nice work – the WB624 ‘float’ picture that NAM published seems to be the same Commer lorry but parked up in a car park for the balloons to be attached!

Some of the other photos show the rear fuselage of WD370 and a wing from WP984.

I have a photo somewhere of WB624 about to be paraded through the streets of Manchester in the same way that the Wallis Benson G-APUD that was re-assembled at Style was.
Twin Otter 23, Style was a later base of operation but my recolection of the sequence of events/ locations is hazy as by that time I had moved South to work at RAF Benson and became a sleeping member of TAC rather than an active one..

The article also featured some pictures of WB624 on a ‘float’ for a local gala or similar.

:confused: WADR this already happens at Cockpit-Fest as is illustrated by the fact that people are already displaying such projects at the event; likewise the international projects are well covered on here.

Also from a personal perspective I’m not aware that people are …. “constantly bemoaning the fact that no one is doing anything to build/recreate their favourite extinct type”

Plus it might have been a good idea to float the topic with the Cockpit-Fest organisers first!

I can also see the centre fuselage of Chipmunk WB624, which we eventually managed to acquire all the missing parts for. This aircraft is now at Newark Air Museum.

A while ago the NAM Dispersal newsletter featured several pictures of WB624, some of which were noted as having been taken at Holly Farm, Styal – another store or was that later? :confused:

Just spotted this one – sadly the front and rear cockpits on NAM’s Javelin FAW.8 are both incomplete so there’s nothing to be gained from photographing them and I’m not sure whether they have the APs in the archive?

Likewise the Meteor NF14 is incomplete although I believe they may currently be working on replacements as part of this restoration project. Would you like me to check what references they’re working from?

TBH the Harvard idea was a potential ‘quick-fix’ i.e. NAM is already considering an EATS / BCATP training scheme for when the aircraft is eventually restored – it just seemed like a good idea.

I should hopefully be back on line a bit more now that my oldest son has been safely delivered back to university and a few other family commitments have been fulfilled. The EATS / BCATP training scheme is a vital part of the Training Story that NAM aims to tell; indeed amongst today’s emails is something from the NAM Archivist for a future Object of the Week that has Canadian connections – a wartime Liquor Permit from Mount Hope, Canada!

Hopefully the trial displays will remain on show for a few more weeks; thereby enabling us to gain further feedback on them, so the Monday would be OK – not sure whether I’ll be around.

Being nosey here, but is the geophysics aviation related in any way?

No problem JR – if you’re around on January 23rd why not pop in and see some of the display ideas that our ‘graduate placement’ has come up with!

Hopefully I will be there for most of the day – not that I wish to put you off!! 😀
