Opening Status further update – 02.12.10
The weather watch on the museum website has just been updated and below are the most important parts of the update:
“The museum has now closed to allow those staff members who struggled in to return home in daylight and it will now remain shut until at least Saturday 4th December 2010.”
… and
“The situation will be reviewed during Saturday with a view to investigating the possibility of re-opening the museum to visitors on Sunday 5th December at 1000 hours.”
Opening Status – 02.12.10
NAM is back open today but they’re not sure for how long – currently around 10 inches of lying snow – the website news item has been updated! 🙂
would i be right in saying that this is just about the only hawk cockpit out there for sale or even i private hands?
http://www.warstuff.com/detail.asp?id=1502&n=Hawk-Cockpit
regards Sam
I’m not sure about it being “only hawk … in private hands” IIRC there have been two Hawk cockpits displayed at Cockpit-Fest:
2008 – XX343
2010 – XX320
The museum is closed today (1st December 2010) due to the adverse weather – further updates as advised in the post above; sorry for any inconvenience caused! 🙁
Weather watch – 30th November 2010
The museum is currently open, despite the poor weather conditions – however an item has been added to the News Page of the museum website to keep people advised of any changes to that situation. 🙂
Airfix Sea Vixen kits
Despite the very cold conditions and a light covering of snow the Newark Air Museum is open today – the only real problem that’s been encountered was a few frozen locks on the buildings.
Perhaps only the real hardy will venture out but as an incentive to any modellers amongst you the Airfix 1/48th Hawker Siddeley Sea Vixen FAW.2 model kits are now in stock. More details here!
Due to a huge demand only 5 kits are in stock, the remainder have been pre-ordered and are now ready for collection! 🙂
I’ve got Damien Burke’s fabulous book on the TSR2 and I guess this would be either flight 19 on 11/3/65 – “Flight envelope expansion” or flight 20 on 12/3/65 – “Low-level performance”? No phots though.
Don’t spoil it too much – I haven’t got to that part yet!
So far it’s been a very enlightening and thought provoking read!! 🙂
I wonder whether this incident http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/bristol/7815875.stm has influenced the decisions being taken? 🙁
Lighty,
It’s a little bit difficult to pin everything down straight away but all of NAM’s events [Aeroboots, Open Cockpit Days, etc.]are regularly detailed here!
Admission and other details are available here but please note that some admission rates will be increasing slightly from 1 January 2011! 🙁
Hope that you decide to pay us a visit! 🙂
This was more like what I had in mind http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showpost.php?p=1513937&postcount=2 😉
You might have escaped – I would be worried about the Norwich Vulcan tonight! Bloomin blizzard there today
Bruce
You all need to get your noses fastened down as suggested on the previous ‘snow thread!’ 😉
Details can also be found here http://www.key.aero/view_news.asp?ID=2789&thisSection=historic
Happy Birtday W4050 and good luck with the restoration project – it sounds as though they won’t be needing any help to ‘push it out’ for a while!! 😀
Aeroboots
Sorry for the slight delay in responding (a few PC issues this afternoon / evening).
The main mailing work has been done and at present I don’t anticipate it being repeated – sorry! 😮 A lot of it is done via email anyway; if you let us have some more information I’ll try and get it included with the confirmations and eventually the passes.
Fouga,
It all depends on the picture being added to the site, but it is restricted within certain limits set in the news page editing software!
Some pictures are larger than others and they can be accessed by using the ‘click here’ button on the right of the news item.
The news page is designed for the more transient information and things are often removed or updated after a short period of time. Following complaints of missing information from specific news links off web-fora I have started to try and point to the general news page rather than to a specific item – however does this now give you a slightly larger picture on the NF14? 😉
A further update for the NAM website is currently underway, partially prompted by comments from site-users and the VAQAS visit (see other thread for details) and funded by a VAQAS related grant! 😀
This update will include a new image gallery section that will hopefully add some extra photographic content to the website. 🙂
If I remember I’ll let you all know when the update is completed! :diablo:
