The HLF will have no say in the process.
Surely that depends what’s in the contract that was signed with the HLF?
6th November 2010 – Indoor Aeroboot
I’ve just lifted this from the museum website re the Aeroboot – “We have now sold 43 tables to 33 sellers for this forthcoming event and these bookings include 10 sellers new to Indoor Aeroboots at the museum. The event is limited to 48 tables so with forms already sent out we expect to sell out – again.”
Full details can be found here!
IT‘ll be in the book Phillip!!
Off those serial numbers it’s the T.3’s (Jetstream 31’s). Surprised they’re unserviceable though.
Not when you consider some of the spare part requests some places have received! 😮
Thanks for the suggestion; but the number quoted refers to the i.d. of the small part described above. 🙂
It might be nice to have a ‘blue one’ as well as a ‘red one’! :diablo:
Hartmann – I don’t think that NAM will be approaching BAe about a MR4A; part of the R1 decision related to not getting a complete airframe; plus as David Burke has already indicated the transport issues from the north-west would be much greater than those originally faced from Waddington! It’s much bigger than the Ashton fuselage!!
Volunteering at the museum is an interesting one and is something that is currently being reviewed (I have six pages worth of notes to type up from an external meeting on the subject yesterday!). It is possible that this could be restructured in the near future, however the current information is highlighted here.
Anon – no problems re the cockpit; the ‘Zap’ is more likely to be a visitor rather than someone from NAM! They haven’t fitted oleo clamps to it have they? We didn’t take a look there!! 😉
Phil103 – the only advertised cockpit opening currently on the books is for today and tomorrow; details here. Although we might get some more open in the week. In recent times many of the cockpit openers have moved on to restoration work at the museum – cockpit opening interest you Hartmann? The best option would be to call 01636 707170 before you travel – the most likely days would be October 26, 28, 30 & 31.
XM692 – the Cockpit-Fest DVD has gone very quiet and to be honest it had slipped off my radar; but I will make some enquiries.
I think that’s everything covered – for now!!
Just a quick note to advise that the ‘Paper Plane’ cockpit, H.S.748 Srs.2 G-ORAL has left the museum this morning to return to the north-west – thanks for the short loan! 😀
You should now have an email Tom – more to follow at a more convenient time! 🙂
If you PM me an email address I’ll respond via email and that way I can send you some meaningful feedback; reports etc.
A brief timeline for the museum can be found here http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/museum_profile.html
The museum location has always been on a disused facility with no meaningful aviation infrastructure. 🙂
I guess this place might qualify http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/ 😀
Whilst located on part of a disused former RAF base (no longer serviceable runways) I guess it would qualify as being a non-airport location – what would you like to know?
What is the Southfield Site Visitor Centre?
That’s a very good question.
Currently a good proportion of NAM’s aircraft and displays are housed on 4 acres of leased land (currently 21 years into a 50 year lease with the landlords).
The Southfield site is 12.38 acres of land that the museum purchased around 15 years ago, which has been slowly developed since the acquisition. This is where Hangar 2 (the 2,400 sq metre HLF funded project) was constructed in 2003/4.
NAM is now starting to provide more facilities alongside the Hangar 2 and this is what is known as the Southfield Site Visitor Centre Project; and will include the following items in a single building:
Education / lecture area
Archive / library / research areas
Improved small object display areas
Shop
Café / seating areas
Toilets
A large part of the project will see the museum entrance area relocated to be directly off Drove Lane and will include improved infrastructure / car parking areas that will allow dual use for events like the Outdoor Aeroboot, Cockpit-Fest and temporary aircraft display areas for Photo Shoot events.
The floor area of the Southfield Site Visitor Centre will occupy approximately 700 sq metres of space i.e. being just under one third of the floor area occupied by Hangar 2.
😀 As the project moves forward ‘rest-assured’ that I will be passing on progress reports on a regular basis! 😉
Aeroboot – 6th November 2010
Just to allay any slight concerns re Aeroboot passes for the November 6th event at Newark – these are currently ready for despatch and we are just waiting for an updated hangar plan to be produced, which will contain the stall layouts. If everything goes according to plan all of these items will be despatched to stallholders at the beginning of next week – so don’t panic if they’ve not come through yet! 🙂
Its OK TO, you can take one before they even fit the wings!
Bruce
Personally speaking – recovering parts for the programme is what gets me!
Plus a five figure sum lost as a contribution towards the deficit reduction!! :diablo:
…. SO does anyone have room for one in their collection? Or will the MR4 go the same way as the AEW?
Good luck! 🙁
