Southfield Site Visitor Centre Project

Thank you for your support – every little bit helps towards the bills and ongoing development costs! 🙂

I’m not sure about the suit though – perhaps we need to encourage a wider range of traders at the Indoor Aeroboot; that said they better be quick as there’re only a few tables left to be sold!! 😀

The media reports I’ve seen and heard seem to be linking the tragic incident to other local thefts of 4 x 4 vehicles! :confused:

Just a brief reminder that a week today – Monday 18th October 2010, Newark Air Museum will be shut for the day due to major electrical installation works that are taking place locally and thereby disrupting the museum’s electrical supply.

Following on from my earlier post today I would hasten to add that the De Havilland Aircraft Museum also has a NF3 in the National Benchmark category. 🙂

Plus the IWM and Solent Sky have Sea Venoms in the same National Benchmark category along with NAM’s FAW.21 WW217.

I’ve just checked my PDF of the Register and it’s still listed there and I do believe that the basic methodology of the NAHR is sound and fair to all museums – that said TBPH I was slightly surprised when I first saw it! 😉

It might be worthwhile contacting the Curator at Newark – the following text was copied from the website about next year’s Canberra Anniversary event and there might be some details in the Research Files mentioned. 🙂

“A previously displayed set of graphic will be supplemented by some new material gathered from the Research Files of ‘Canberra Authority’, Peter Green. An extensive collection of Peter’s Research Files have been added to the Museum Archive and this new display will allow some of that material to be displayed to the museum visitors.”

Nearly the right one at Newark TT but not quite – NAM’s National Benchmark listed Prentice is VR249 and as you correctly noted it wears the Cranwell codes FA-EL; still a nice depiction of the type above the RAF College Cranwell. 🙂

As far as NF.3 WX905 at Newark goes it is a National Benchmark airframe, although IIRC its cockpit is incomplete.

Its key service locations were:

Harwarden
Coltishall
Horsham St Faith
Shawbury
Yatesbury
RAFM Henlow – stored
Newark

That’s part of the dilemma Doug; especially with Staddon Heights. When I try to cross reference it another site gives the location as being in Devon yet displays a map of the Bagthorpe / Underwood area of Nottinghamshire.

I’m fairly happy with Cromwell and Grassthorpe Grange sites as they are listed on some Air Navigation sites, but more information would be appreciated.

Similar question about Oxton / Thurgarton. 🙂
