Jets are OK if you dont mind suffering from impared hearing….

Try ‘discussing’ that with former Shackleton crews!!

Indeed perhaps it’s the people (designers, constructors, pilots, ground crew, museum volunteers etc) that are really important in all of this and not the aircraft!! 😮
(Tin hat firmly in place!) 😀

Sadly no system is perfect and I am also aware of issues at ‘registered organisations’ – but at least you have somewhere (MLA) to go to with any complaint to seek arbitration or whatever. Something that you don’t easily have if a site is not registered or accredited!

However as pointed out by Pondskater the MLA looks set to close in 2012! 🙁

…Why not do something positive, ….

IIRC Matt does, by looking after a rather nice cockpit of his own!! 😉

…I do worry about the future of classic aircraft such as the Canberra, Hunter,Gnat to name a few as people seem far happier to see 15 Spitfires in the air rather then a couple of classic jets……might just be my age:confused:………and before you say it i totally respect what the Spitfire did for us in WW2 that dos’nt mean we forget about the rest…

    😮 … Heretic burn him!!! :diablo: 😀

A good starting point is to ensure that the museum you make a loan to is a ‘Registered’ or ‘Accredited’ Museum with the MLA. Details on this link including a list of those already part of, or applying for the scheme.

As a minimum these organisations will issue you with paperwork setting out the agreed terms when you make a loan.

Individual site conditions can also have an impact on the actual specifications used, as can the quality of the aggregates used etc etc!! 😀

Certainly not at Winthorpe – many happy ‘hours’ with a pneumatic drill to put in ‘few’ fence posts; if only the concrete had been 6 inches thick!

The specs for the recently built culvert between the sites and the floor of Hangar 2 were significantly greater than 6 inches of poured concrete!

…. I reckon gone the days when 6in of non-reinforced poured concrete was sufficient….

    When was that used??? 😮

… The Cockpit was ( And still is ) laying on its Port side and is( or was in 1972 ) a really good candidate for Cockpit fest at Newark…..

😀 I’m sure it’d be made very welcome!!

Earlier today the museum underwent its latest ‘secret assessment’ under the Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme [VAQAS] – the good news is that NAM retained its status as a VAQAS registered site. 🙂

    More details here!
