No – not in NAM’s case it’s called division of labour, which is a great help when organising a series of major events in such a relatively short space of time.

I’m reliably informed that the TSR.2 wing box section at NAM is finally going to receive some TLC 😮 and will soon become part of a new mini display about the type at Newark.

Damien Burke’s expert eye has been instrumental in getting this rare artefact the care it deserves – thanks DB! 🙂

I respect them also, having read his postings. I was just thinking out loud that with the benefit of hindsight it’s a shame they weren’t preserved, like so many ‘last survivors’ of larger types, ie. B.1 Vulcan etc.
There was no pop at NAM for not taking the Strathallan one on 🙂

IMHO the ideal time to preserve something is fresh out of service – that way any real issues should be under control; things start to become more complex when an airframe has stood for a long time outside.

That said miracles do sometimes happen e.g. the Wallace fuselages recovered from woods at Cranwell by NAMs founders in 1963 – the early days of UK preservation!

I went inside that at Pontefract park about 20 years ago, a lot better than that trailer with a Nimrod painted on they use now :)…………

It might have been there as a ‘NAM resident’ if it hadn’t gone for such a high price! 🙁

Not sure about the quality – but if you contact NAM they might be able to help further; one of the trustees writes flight sim software – Shackleton MR3 and Dove are a couple of his that I’m aware of.

In view of the topic is anyone a member of S.O.D.S – annual reunion being hosted at NAM on 5 September, 2010? 🙂
