So how long until the next plea for cash?
 A similar question seems to have been side-stepped in this interview… http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7928677.stm
DeltaPapa,
I made the point in response to your comment of…. “It doesn’t make sense to say 558 is taking money from other projects when people have a chioce of where they donate to”
Like all things in life people have a choice; this even applied to HLF who chose to fund the project.
From a personal perspective I believe the HLF money would have been better spent on getting more aircraft under cover but I acknowledge there will always be others that disagree – so be it!
If the news from elsewhere is correct, that the project has been saved by some of their sponsors stepping in; then well done to all those involved and who have contributed this time round. 🙂
What? you mean like £15.5m for England’s historic places of Worship?
As an atheist I object to these obscene sums of money being splashed out on buildings for the worship of false gods…. :diablo:
:diablo: Yes, or like Dave Homewood’s post on Feb 15th over here, http://forum.planetalk.net/viewtopic.php?t=7527&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30
“It seems to me that Vulcanism has become a religion, with the religious fanatics being blindly devoted to worshipping this ‘tin triangle’ – devoted to a cause where they think miracles are achievable. They’re happy to continuously give donations to the cause without actually seeing much in the way of results, but they do it because the word from on high comes down that if they don’t, bad things will happen…
The followers of Vulcanism are in the firm belief that seeing the Vulcan rise again from the dead is the ultimate goal, and that it is all important to society at large (for some reason).
Then there are the aetheists who say it’s all total ********. They are scorned by the religious devotees for not being committed to the cause, and the two sides are locked in a perpetual struggle, the devout Vulcanologists saying the aetheists are heathens for not beleiving in the word of TVOC; while the aetheists saying the devout followers of the Vulcan are all bloody nutters who’re wasting their time and money.
Amen to that”.
IMHO best summation I’ve seen so far!
I gather from posts elsewhere that the project has been saved by some of their sponsors stepping in – good luck with collecting the pledges.
It doesn’t make sense to say 558 is taking money from other projects when people have a chioce of where they donate to
The not so insignificant amount of HLF money certainly could have been used elsewhere.
IMHO I fear for the public perception of the aviation heritage sector if it all goes wrong – fingers crossed that it doesn’t!
As mentioned in an earlier post – I will ensure all comments are fed back to the trustees at Newark.
One point regarding the layout – I understand that this was done to maximise available space; I believe that due to possible changes in Hangar 2 content it might be different next time round.
Also I know that each group of visitors [visitor] was given an A5 handout version of the hangar plan to show all stalls as they entered via the Museum Shop.
I’m told that sellers came from south of London and the border region of Scotland. Would guess Newark need more feedback from the buyers about their travel distances.
I’m not sure either, but there seemed to be a reasonable amount of vehicle movements, collecting larger items; plus parcel laddened buyers!
Are there any ideas that I can feedback to the museum, especially with regard to trying to attract more visitors to this type of event?
I’m reliably informed that the museum sent out more than 300 emails to various aviation contacts; they also advertised the event; posters and flyers were sent to other events; it was discussed on various aviation fora; they even reduced their admission prices for the day.
So what was missed?
Don’t forget the next one will be during Cockpitfest 2009.
suggest you have a look at the Fighter Control website. Same sort of thing as Air Scene UK. They have a very good photo section.
Sorry CADman, both are good sites but that’s like comparing apples and oranges!
Check out the ‘Hangar’ article archive etc on Air-Scene, I for one hope they can be retained somehow!!
Good work for getting the piece in today’s Sunday Mail, but from a text point of view it was pretty much covered here http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showpost.php?p=1363549&postcount=1538 more than two weeks ago!
Nice touch with the ‘5 Days to go!’ board in the picture.
I’m with GrahamSimons – I’m starting to sense ‘a rabbit might soon appear out of a hat!!’
Spoke to someone at the museum today and they seemed fairly pleased with everything at the event on Saturday.
🙁 There were a few traffic jams for those people coming into Newark from the west, but I understand that the A17 route was OK most of the day.
XH668 – the next Aeroboot is June 13 & 14 as part of Cockpitfest 2009; I understand that some booking forms were circulated yesterday.
The word from the museum is that all the Cockpitfest participation information is being posted of very soon. 😉
XM594 – Newark Air Museum
Poor scan, from a scratched negative on a cold and snowy day in February 1983!
XM594 lands at Winthorpe.
Contrary to Sharkey Ward’s ramblings, the Harrier ……
I personally find that the sort of comment above is the type that is really offensive! 😡
Perhaps best put – “people in glass houses …!”
Just caught the local news – the circus was picketed by a few protestors in the dark – so it should be clear tomorrow morning … remember A17 route in! 😀
Thanks Roger – other side of the Showground fortunately! The advice about approaching the museum from the A17 side still holds good! 😀
