The snow levels are nothing like you experience Peter; about 6 inches worth is what I understand has fallen, but as usual a lot of the UK comes to a standstill in such conditions. This morning it took my wife 2 hours to travel 5 miles into Nottingham on the bus and even then she ended up walking the last 2 miles. No such thing as a snow route or similar here in ‘Blighty!’
As no one has made it to the museum I’ve not heard any damage reports for the aircraft – in the past such snowfall hasn’t caused any damage but we’ll just have to hope everything is OK. On the plus side it seems to now be thawing a bit in Nottingham.
When the Vulcan first arrived we had a ‘snow rota’ in case of heavy snow fall; where volunteers agreed to go along to sweep any heavy snow and stop the aircraft tipping backwards. Not sure whether this was implemented due to a RAF ‘wind-up’, but we were never called into action. :confused: The aircraft is now tethered at the nose just in case!
