So in the end, no one can find the official source for the alleged “Rafale break Typhoon radar in WVR” incident?. (Yes, i know it a hoax but it must have came from some sources)

its your bias that you cant digest the latest news.

    See who talking …

I didnot made this call. Look at up the RT report for altitude and inteecept

Look JSR , no one here care about RT or sputnik or Fox new or whatever kind of electronic toilet paper you brought up , alright?. Just stop!

ok, it’s official, you can’t read… no need to go further troll…

Since when is PIRATE mounted on the head of the pilot??? it is part of the aircraft, you troll… or lukos, or whatever your prvious nicknames were…

TBH, i dont think he claim Pirate is mounted on pilot head anywhere, merely that pilots can use HMD and/or IRST in WVR case instead of relying on radar.

the principle is quite simple in fact:

when you sit in an aircraft (any aircraft, be it the latest fighter or a simple cessna), you plug in your helmet for comms (radio)). with HMD, the connection (obviously a bit more complex) is used also for communication between the helmet (hmd) and the aircraft systems. By construction, the hmd is made to be able to position itself in the aircraft (gyroscopes etc..), which way it is turned and so on. that data is used by the onboard computer to calculate what you’re looking at, and orientate the sensors that way, to give you information about what you’re looking at, and to allow you to lock them on what you see

AFAIK, HMD can cue the missile even when there are no others sensors can look that way.(basically how AIM-132 and HMD allow over shoulder shot)

hmd is what its name says it is: “helmet mounted display”

it displays the informations for the pilot, it doesn’t collect them. The informations displayed come from onboard systems, through aircrafts computer.

If HMD can’t collect any information by themselves then how can you use them to designate(choose) targets for your HOBS missiles?

MIG-31 does not have lower operational speed. infact it has the highest operational speed. there is context to word operational.
with lighter avionics/radar and engine boost. MIG-31 is 30km altitude fighter.

For the benefit of everyone, please go! or stop clutter the thread with your Russia stronk propaganda

actually, HMD doesn’t measure the range

Most HMD probably has their own LRF. Given that you can launch missiles at adversary from any angle if aircraft equipped with HMD and HOBS missiles

    Mig-31 has a lower operational speed .

That what i was thinking, just wondering if anyone has Mig-31 manual

Without HMD or IRST, it true that pilots use radar for ranging in WVR though. It just that there are no official sources regarding Rafale break Typhoon radar

AFAIK Mig-25 is limited to Mach 2.8 or around that , not sure if that is with load or not though

i wondered if Mig-31 can reach similar speed – altitude or much slower due to high bypass turbofan engine.

The F-16 uses a pitot intake. If you don’t understand the difference between a fixed ramp and pitot I can’t help you. I suppose an inlet cone is also pitot by that reckoning?

    .

So what you are trying to say is that pitot intake ( on F-16) can achieve the same performance as variable intake (on f-15 )up to Mach 1, hence fixed intake on Typhoon vs variable inlet on Mig-29 should have similar behavior ?
Seem reasonable enough , what is your reply Andraxxus?

I can guarantee it’s a French blog. French Sputnik equivalent. Similar sites have claimed that an Su-24 caused Aegis radar screens to go blank and apparently Richtag AV has blocked all NATO electronics over Syria. These sort of claims are 10 a pennyhttp://www.kp.ru/daily/26221.4/3104418/
    http://osnetdaily.com/2015/10/russian-jamming-system-blocks-all-nato-electronics-inside-bubble-600-km-in-diameter-over-syria/

I haven’t heard about the Typhoon – Rafale incident but i did heard about Su-24 , Aegis incident. The fact that there are people who believe in the version of the story where ” Su-24 shut down SPY-1 completely and US Navy sailors requested to be relieved from active duty as a result “, truly make me feel like

The last time spectra was activated in an exercise, it took the full night to the maintenance team to investigate what was the issue with the Typhoon Radar.
It was impossible to lock the Rafale in WVR.

Do you have a source or something?

So what is the real difference between intake ram and spliter plate? aren’t they both supposed to slow air down?
