Arriving into FRA isn’t the problem, its getting back to the airport in the morning that seemed to be it. Are you sure we are talking about the same thing though, there is “Holiday Inn” and then “Express by Holiday Inn” 2 completely seperate things?

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express – Frankfurt Airport. It had a regular shuttle bus to the airport and seemed to be very popular amongst business travellers and spotters alike, we chatted to a few different people on the bus. Its about a 10 minute drive from the airport, in the evenings getting to the hotel was fine, but the shuttle bus was fully booked from 0700 to 0930 on the sunday morning, so we opted for the city tour which was only marginally more expensive than a taxi!!
It costs £56 euros a night including breakfast, I work that out to be £37.50, and was well worth the money with good rooms, just it might be a good idea to reserve your space on the shuttle a few days before you arrive.

September the 12th is I THINK the date that was being thrown around, but there is no official confirmation of anything at all, just rumours and speculation.

The food is still like that, Frankfurter and German Beer, but when in Rome…

I just realised I didn’t mention the ramp tour. After the initial problems, the following day our tour guide went and enquired for us, and told us they started at the hut thing by the entrance to the terrace, but not until 11:30. We had arrived at about 11 the previous day, hence no-one being there.
We bought our tickets (4 euros each) and went down the lifts to a coach point, were searched, and boarded the coach.
We went through a check point, and straight out onto the apron, past a Delta 767 and out along the T2 ramp area, past all the parked aircraft.
We continued along the taxiway up to T1, passing a parked Thaijet 757 from Phuket, and proceeded to drive around the service road BEHIND the aircraft. Due to the vastness of the planes parked on these ramps (LH 744s and LH and SAA A346s) we ended up driving UNDERNEATH the tails of the planes! Very very interesting! We continued our taxi round, past the remote stands where there was a Vietnam 767, and then a Malaysian 777 overtook us on the taxiway, and the FO gave us a wave!
We went all the way down the airport towards 18, past the cargo and maintenace areas too.
Then we turned around, and parked next to 07L for a few minutes and watched some LH A320s land and takeoff, before retracing our steps and heading back to the terminal. The whole trip lasted about 40 minutes, superb value indeed!!

Whoops there seem to have been some replies I didn’t see there.
The terrace was really difficult to find, we took about 20 minutes to find it in the first instance, and a fair bit of wandering the next day.
We found however that it was signposted from OUTSIDE the terminal but not inside. Basically the easiest way to find it is to go into the main Lufthansa Check in hall (Its all yellow in there!) and then go up the escalators to the top level, and it is up there past a cockpit, a model shop etc. If you go up to that level from further in the terminal (I think its area B) then you have to walk through a Greek vase and plate exhibition to get there!
I think there might be some express security things, there certainly was something like that in T2, but there were no transatlantic flights in the evening so i didn’t see anyone using it.
I am still looking into FRA/CGN/DUS in the summer, trying to find some of the best prices, but its rather complex trying to visit 3 differnt airports in one trip, and rather expensive too!

Callsigns are for ATC use only, no ulterior motive for them. The reason it was changed was partyl because of Moondances reason, and also monosyllabic callsigns are not recomended and were proving difficult for many foreign ATC to pronounce/understand.

Usualy only bring the 777 and A340 in. A300 is a freight flight I think, and I have never seen an A320 there.

EMB190 and an SAA B744!! This should be interesting!
I notice that none of the Airbus or Boeing commericial planes are mentioned on that site which is a bit odd!

I don’t think thats what Concordesst means. I read it as he was sorry for the victims, and for Paris, as this incident WILL dent their Olympic chances. The comments he made reflecting what the public are going to say about it (mirror, sun et al) it just wasn’t worded as eloquently as it could have been.

I saw it too, albeit in BFS. That darn 757 follows me around everywhere, STN, LHR, Lasham, DUB, and now BFS!!!
