Manfred von Richtofen’s autobiography…..
Talking to my father a couple of days ago, he remembers seeing Alan Cobham’s Flying Circus visit the West Common at Lincoln when ‘e were but a lad…..the autogyro made a particular impression on him. Pleasure flights cost 25p (5/-).
About midday heading east over Barford St John, a small twin with a long projection at the tail..like a PC-3 MAD pole. What would that be? Some sort of geological survey a/c?
Answers on a postcard please…
That is great news about the CR42. Roll on the CR42/Gladiator/Spitfire/Hurricane “Malta formation” at a future Legends. Oh for a Maryland or Beaufort to complete it…..
Excellent and poignant website. I always thought it was bad weather that prevented the fighter cover..but that must’ve come from reading the old paperback book about the operation. What extraordinarily brave men they were.
Radio 4 PM programme just had a piece about the proposed conservation methods….will be accessible via BBC-iplayer for those interested. A great achievement by the RAFM, I think.Well done.
Double Wow!! What a fantastic photograph. Thanks for posting.
Twisters aerobatic team overflying Barford St John NW at 3pm ish..en route Cosford?
Thanks all, glad you liked them.
Thanks for the Cougar pics…lovely.
That was Kermit’s first flight in the GB!!!! That man has titanium cojones. The fast low past was awesome.
Yep, me too…until shot#3, when I thought..that’s a very small pilot. And then the penny dropped. Amazing models..the Cougar is absolutely gorgeous and so are the rest, Hawks particularly. Any more of the Cougar?
Great collection of photos, thanks for sharing them. Two things spring to mind…..first, spot the Western original design for each aircraft….and second, they all remind me of my old Observers Books of Aircraft, and those grainy shots of Badgers and Bisons.
“There is nothing more beautiful than a wooden glider.”
There is…a hangar full of wooden gliders…looking forward to the VGC Rally.
I remember clambering over a Javelin on Hal Far’s fire dump in Summer 1966. Can’t recall any of 728’s Sturgeon bits unfortunately….
