Precious Metal is a Legend…..Steve Hinton, please ship it over to our Legends….please?
BGA recommends oxygen in gliders above 10, 000ft. At 34, 000ft, breathing 100% oxygen will provide an adequate partial pressure, but above that, positive pressure breathing is needed to avoid hypoxia. If the cabin oxygen masks drop out on you at cruising altitude, you will not be remaining at that altitude for long!
Nice set of photos which recalled fond memories of being an FAA brat in the 60’s and the air days at Culdrose then…watching Simon’s Sircus Vixens, the mandatory dropping of the “badly parked car” from a chopper, my first ever Spitfire which flew in, in the hands of Jeffrey Quill, taxying across the airfield in the back of 831 Sqn’s Avenger, the resident Brigands, Sea Balliols, and my first ever flight..in a Miles Messenger. Oh, and the V tailed Supermarine 508 used by the School of Aircraft Handling on their dummy flight deck in the corner of the airfield by the Captain’s house, which ended up at Predannack, used for fire training I believe. Happy days…
Well done to all at OW for the Comet return to flight..a long time since it graced the bend, can’t wait to see it again.
The last Fauvel I saw flying was at Dunstable…The Budgie, as it was named, had it’s neck well and truly wrung in a very fine aerobatic display flown by Jerry Berringer. I think I last saw it in the hangar at Halton.
Extraordinary story. That much hurt, and to survive. Humbling.
Go Nadz…..glad to hear you’re up and partaking of a lightly boiled egg etc. Well handled, respect.
Ah, I see there is a dog in both pictures…missed it first look. Great stuff. Woof.
Nice picture…but where’s the dog?
Every squadron photo from WW1 had a dog in it.
Congratulations to him, a very well deserved recognition of his work.
Not historic…yet….but spotted solo Tornado, very low level, about midday 13th Feb, W of Barford St John, turning North. Subsequently reported on the BBC as carrying out imaging of the floods in the Thames valley. Didn’t spot the Sentinel at 40, 000ft apparently doing the same thing though!
Nice way to spend a Sunday. Cheers.
First Merlin of 2014…Hurricane flying N over Barford St John, Oxon, about 2000ft at 12.05, 02/02/14.
Any clues as to who/which/where to?
Use once only?
🙂
Agreed, a thoroughly enjoyable day, thanks to all the pilots, engineers, volunteers and staff who braved chilly hangars to chat to us. Thanks and do it again next year please.
