Actually. quite definitely the worst mis-spelling I have noticed is the use of “loose” when “lose” is meant. This started in American sites and has spread to Europe.
Best regards,
Grammar School pedant
Will do – many thanks.
Ian.
Anybody know what sizes of cans the Humbrol RAF colours come in other than the small pots? I need to retouch bits of a real Harrier and getting
the proper colours mixed would mean getting more paint than I need.
Cheers,
Ian.
Dear DJ Jay,
No need to be sorry! – on the contrary, I was pleased that your question
implied that the canopy only looked slightly odd as compared to being a complete disaster! After spending hours last summer with bits of strip steel
from B&* and acrylic sheet – guess what? someone had a canopy for sale……(sigh).
The front canopy does not have any plexiglass (transparency) as apparently
the original was detonated (test or the real thing I wonder?).
Although I could probably fit acrylic as I did for the home-made one,
does anybody have experience of getting perspex (or acrylic) molded?
regards,
Ian.
Thanks DJ Jay for the vote of confidence in my efforts to make a canopy almost like the real thing. At least it fools the ordinary punters and keeps the water out!
As Dave T mentioned, I will shortly be replacing it with the real thing.
Ian.
It couldn’t have been a “small” garage! (the wide angle lens makes me look bigger in comparison). Seriously, if you do have any historical information, it would be gratefully received.
No- the box of cockpit bits must have sadly been dispersed long before I got it…………..
As I mentioned previously, hopefully by summer’s end she will have proper canopies and intakes (and the seat will be bolted in so that when I stand on it
I am not perpetually tipped out over the side!)
Cheers,
Ian.
Sorry guys about the B***lixed picture being oversized and pixellated to hell.
Still don’t know what I did wrong.
Ian.
Here’s the boring old picture of me fondling my T2.
I promise to take some more pictures soon (of it, not me!).
Ian.
Hello Robert,
So THAT’S who made me almost fall off my ladder!
(Don’t forget to wave next time)
Seriously though, if you want a closer look in between your flights
from the West End of East Fortune then feel free to send me a PM.
I will be taking a new set of photos in a few days since the T2 is now off its handling trolley and perched on “proper” supports. (A bit more detail will now be visible).
Overhead flyers should notice some changes over the next few months as
I have acquired a set of proper canopies and from Dave T a pair of intake sections.
Anyone got a spare pair of wings?
Ian.
I would love to as I live only a mile away from East Fortune BUT,
1. I am too old
2. I have recently retired
3. I have a Harrier of my own which is taking up most of my time!
Super job for someone though.
Ian.
I would certainly be interested!
(Of course, living only a mile away from East Fortune you can guess where
my preferences would be………..)
And you can all help me lift the Harrier back on to its handling trolley.
Cheers,
Ian.
Quote “Spifires are rare in Penicuick”
…… But Harriers are not rare near Haddington…….
Ian.
PS For those eagle eyed amongst you please note:
1) The simulation was not running, hence some funny indications (eg Art Horiz vs Bank)
and
2) The extra airspeed indictaor has been replaced by the (working) RPM indicator
(I know, I know, it should be the standby altimeter but I prefer it my way!
Merging Historic with Flight Simulation, here is how my Frasca mid-sixties instrument trainer simulating a Piper Warrior ended up.
It is a mixture of original instruments supplemented by modern versions and the panel instruments are slaved to Microsoft FS2004 which provides the scenery display (not shown but above the panel).
Apart from the VOR it all works!
(I did feel bad chopping up the original mechanical drives though)
regards,
Ian.
Hi Ian,
Yes you do! – The Harrier (not hanger) T2/T4 at Sandy’s Mill.
Ian.
