Ted Inman has resigned. You heard it here first.
A scoop for the forum!
Maybe the new director of IWM Duxford will show an interest in obtaining a significant British aircraft when he takes up his post in the middle of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Damien,
Any news yet about their plans?
Talk to the restoration staff, they say their contract ends when AirSpace is finished.
It certainly will not be going on the Shack & the Hastings which are slowly rotting away outside.
The major problem affecting the RAFM Beverley was corrosion caused by birds. Their nests & droppings. Some of you may remember the holes through the lower cowlings.
Imagine what havoc seagulls will bring. 🙁
Just think if simpler structures had been built or if the hangar destroyed during the making of the BofB film had been replaced how many missing aircraft from the collection could have been purchased. The museums are about displaying aircraft not buildings. Can anybody tell me when the museums that have been given grants last purchased an aircraft for the nation? The only purchase I can think of late is the Beaufighter to Scotland.
C’mom!!!!!!!
“Many aviation heritage projects have benifitted from the Heirtage Lottery Fund! “
Milestones of Flight at Hendon,
XH558,
Airspace, Duxford
Reception Building and Entrance to Cosford,
Newark Air Museum,
American Air Museum, Duxford
Only one of those is an aircraft! Of the £21,000,000 that has been alloted to Duxford, how much will go to the preservation or restoration of aircraft. I can tell you £0.00. Where did the bulk of money go in the American Museum, it certainly wasn’t to the aircraft. Bricks & mortar get gongs, aeroplanes do not.
What response did anybody get from the RAF Museum or the Imperial War Museum when the preservation of the Beverley was mentioned. You certainly were not deafened by the noise they made.
Shout at them guys, maybe they will hear!
Ant, ignorance is never excused!
When mum took me to see a crashed Me110, a pair of 190’s (I believe) flew low over the house, a V-1 buzzing overhead whilst I was going to the local town in horse and cart, a V-2 motor steaming in a local field, B-17’s returning, first flight in a Lincoln.
What chance did I really have? I still look for every sound in the sky and I will be airborne on Christmas eve! 🙂
Any more news????????????????
Talking a couple of weeks ago with Ernie Taylor , TFC volunteer, he tells me that the Beaufighter team would welcome some more volunteers to add to those on the project at the moment.
So what Beaufighter are we talking about?
