Nice shots Alan – I particularly like the first one of the big hands out the back of the Chinook. I think the Chinook display team enjoy their work!
Airbourne was superb this year, massive thanks to those who organised it.
Hi Anna,
Nice job!
I think you must have been standing next to my Mrs and me as we have some very similar shots. If you walked past the Bomber Command Memorial and over the fence, down the edge of the cliffs then you may well have seen us sitting about half way down on our tartan picnic blanket with the radio on! Wasn’t that Red Arrow spectacular – right over the top?! He did that last year but I’d forgotten to get my camera ready. There’s always a shot you miss, eh?!
This was the best I got:

We’re off down into Eastbourne tomorrow to watch if from the beach. Hopefully get some different shots from there.
Enjoy…
Stunning. Now….ref their exit at Beachy Head at the end of the clip….I wonder if anyone up there was filming?!
Ha – I was up there last year and my only disappointment was that the BBMF Lancaster was holding over the other side of Eastbourne while the Spit and Hurricane were displaying – sadly I never did get a decent shot of her off the cliffs.
Going to perch myself up on Beachy Head Saturday can’t wait!!! Weather looks better for Saturday at the moment finger’s crossed.
I’ll probably see you there – My Mrs and I are driving down from Cambridge tomorrow morning so with any luck we’ve got two days on Beachy Head and then Sunday with the crowds along the beach.
Thanks for posting those, Brian – some interesting shots there and nice results quality-wise.
I really must get down to Hendon as there are quite a few aircraft I’ve not yet seen in the flesh – especially some of the German ones.
Thanks for taking the time to post them!
Not sure if anyone’s interested but I took some photos during a hangar tour at the BBMF today, and also got some shots of Coningsby itself – they’ve made a lot of effort!

Apparently local paper states that Vera had issues with her brakes
Not sure if it’s significant but there was an audible sound of them binding when she pulled up at the end of the runway, must have been pretty loud as I could hear them from about 2 hundred yards away, over the sound of the engines. Might have been nothing though.
Haha – well it all worked out perfectly. The day started well when I got a phone call from my father asking if I’d left and if not could he come with me. So we both set off together, bikes on the roof of the car. The road closures didn’t really affect us – we just found a layby near Coningsby village, off the beaten track and then just as we were parking up a gent leant out of his car window and directed us to a little track which finished right alongside the runway in open fields.
By standing on the bike, dad and I got a few decent shots of the old gal landing and then a brilliant close-up view as she taxied past.
We did get absolutely soaked to the skin but what the hell? I wouldn’t have missed it 😉
Massive thumbs up and pat on the back to the Canadians, their aircraft looks majestic.
A few pics for those who have not seen them on the other thread(full album here):

It was great to get to Coningsby today and see the Lanc land. The rain swept in and soaked us in the hour leading up to her arrival but miraculously it stopped just as she appeared out of the dense clouds.
She came straight in and landed quite a long way up the runway before Taxiing to the end and then passing straight by us on the perimeter fence as we waved. Looked superb!

Many thanks chaps – very handy replies!
Think my plan will hopefully work – the bike’s already in the car so no worries if I have to park some way away and cycle there. I’m not heading for one of the closed roads in the car so I should be OK.
Should be quite a spectacle tomorrow.
Is the BBMF visitors center and shop open tomorrow ?
http://www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/visiting/museums/battle-of-britain-memorial-flight/
Seems so – Visitor’s Centre, Gift Shop and Merlin Tea Room open 10 til 5. I may see you there!
Yeah, she’s showing a status of landed at Reykjavik (RKV) in FlightRadar.
I think that due to the hours flown yesterday, the pilots are obliged to have sufficient rest before continuing, which means that even if they could fly today, they would be unable to do so.
Good point – I guess even if there’s no obligation, it would probably make sense to take a day off after a 7h40m flight like yesterday’s. Is there any maintenance that would need to take place on the aircraft after a flight like that, or is it simply a case of refuelling and re-arming?!
Many thanks for your replies both – I’ll bear your posts in mind!
I’ve had a look on Google maps and think I’ll approach the airfield on the B1192 as it’s not affected by the closures (or at least it’s open within cycling distance!) and it looks reasonably good in terms of visibility.
I just hope the weather is OK…
I’ll post some pictures up if I manage to get any!
Thanks chaps – watching it in now….
