    The picture I have of it is on the front cover of a recognition book from 1971.
    As for the idea of it being carried as a spare,didn’t the airlines used to have designated spares carrier aircraft as opposed to lashing them to the undersides of an airliner?It seems like a wierd idea I must say.My only thought is that it may have been used as some sort of test-bed,but then why the NW Orient colours??
    Intrigueing to say the least…

    I hate to be the spanner in the works,but I say NO to T5.I live about 3-4 miles from Heathrow,right in between the approaches for 27L and 27R.Alot of people here feel the same.Apart from the fact that we will get more noise and environmental pollution,it has been BAA’s responses to us that have been a problem.Basically
    they have been saying that there WONT be air traffic increases if T5 goes ahead,which is utter rubbish.We already have the odd aircraft coming into land at ridiculous times of night,and we are by no means the closest to the Airport.It is the fact that they are trying to sell this lie to people that really annoys me.
    I also think there is a very good argument for creating a new London airport,and that idea about Finningly should perhaps be considered in favour to T5.I’ve recently heard that Manston will now become a full blown international airport too.
    I agree that we need to increase our ability to take increased volumes of air traffic,but is T5 really the best solution??

    I’d like to stick up for Kabir aswell.There is no point having a go at people on aviation forums,so go out into this big wide world and get yourself a better life!
    As for my personal (military)favourites I have to say the Lockheed P38 Lightning,particularly the J and L models.I was fortunate enough to see the Fighter Colection’s example at Duxford before she crashed.She was one graceful creation!
    Having said that i like ALL warbirds (yes,even the clipped& cropped unlimited warbird racers!)especially the Lancaster,B17
    Blenhiem,Mosquito…ah hell I just can’t decide!
    As for jets and other modern stuff,I think the Supermarine Swift
    was a very nice looking machine,even if it didn’t always fly terribly well!Then there’s the Sea Vixen…
    As for today’s machines,I’d say perhaps the MiG29,but to be honest I’m not all that hot on the modern hardware.Sorry people!
    As an incidental question,what do people think looks best-Lancaster or Lancastrian?

    Yep it certainly is a great aeroplane Paul,I agree with you there!Glad to hear they haven’t got rid of ALL thier VC10’s-I was thinking Tornado’s were gonna start dropping into the north sea!!So which varient have they dumped?

    Does anyone know anything about the RAF’s current plans to scrap ALL thier VC10 tanker fleet?I heard that they had all gone to StAthan for breaking last month and that some people at Brize were trying to have one saved for prosterity.Anyone else heard this?

    The best looking airliner in my opinion has to be the DH Comet 4C,especially in the old blue and silver BOAC colours!Ooooooh,now thats somethin!I like the VC10 n’all…
    The most ‘different’ aircraft?Possibly the A330 Beluga transport-but is that really count as an airliner ??
