Why are we there ? ( keep it nice and on topic)

Because we can’t stay away from the place?

    Quote from website Infoplease:

‘Aiming to control access to the northern approaches to India, the British tried to replace Dost Muhammad with a former emir, subordinate to them. This policy caused the first Afghan War (1838–42) between the British and the Afghans… ‘

    And the Second Afghan War…..and a third….etc.

There will, I suspect, never be peace in Afghanistan.

I think being packed in for hours across the Atlantic is enough but to be forced to listen to jazz aswell, thats to much !

    Ben

The jazz noise couldn’t have been heard on both decks, surely?

Wow -what a terrific collection. I think the B36 blew me away the most although the Spit in left bank head high set the blood racing. Technically the digital photo outscores but there is at “atmosphere” to these which somehow is missing with modern technology. Perhaps an analogy is the similar difference between an old 78 and its CD counterpart. There is a place for both and of course we can all look at some of the finest gigital aviation photos ever in this forum.

    Great collection!

As you said above – much of the ‘atmosphere’ is missing in many of the modern-day images taken with digital cameras. I believe much of this is down to either the use of telephoto lenses and tight framing that excludes much of the background location and contextual information or, the post-processing of the images that makes many appear ‘over-sharp’ and somewhat unnatural.
A lot of the blame can be placed at the door of those photo libraries who reject shots that don’t reach their rigidly enforced criteria; the rest of the blame lies with those photographers who often shoot against a bland backgound of blue/grey sky.:(
There are, of course, many exceptions to these criticisms: to those who fall into the exemptions category, I thank you all!!

    This should help http://www.cleaningdigitalcameras.com/

Using a sensor wand is much more economical and controlable than sensor swabs or some of the other alternatives. Supplies can be purchased here http://www.cameraclean.co.uk/acatalog/Sensor_Wand_Cleaning_Kits.html

And by the way, there’s only one E in lens.

Good advice on both those sites – but beware of the risk when cleaning the sensor!!!
True, there is only one E in lens – but perhaps he has two or more LEnsEs:D

I’ve changed the text colour in the posting above because it was very difficult to read as it was.

    GA

    “Typically Spanish”, eh? Hmmm….

Sorry about the bad colour choice, GA – won’t happen again!

Any pics of the Victor that ran off the runway at the 1975 airshow? I understand a Hastings was flown in to help recover the Victor.

I attended that airshow but sadly remember nothing of it – I was only 3! 🙁

Not a Hastings – our last one ended on the fire dump in 1967:mad:

    Possibly a Hercules?
