The Yak-130 is not a replacement for the L-39, it does not adequetly cover primary training because aerodymically it with its swept wings and supersonic airfoil it is meant to be more closer to fighters. It *IS* meant to attract customers who want a trainer that can handle light attack jobs. When will you guys give it up? Airforces arent going to buy the PC-9/Tucano T-50/Yak-130 combo just because some aero mag nerds like yourselves think its cool and bitchin. There is a huge need for Primary trainers in almost every AF I can think of. Whats holding AFs back from buying I dont know.

Is the Garret Turbofan still an option for K-8 customers?

I tend to agree with Aurel on this one; those canards will cause problems for the rudders. (Remember those problems that were caused by the small lex:es on F-18. Now that was small lex:es, this is pretty big canards…)

And when it comes to flutter – a forward swept wing means that you are getting serious flutter effects (divergence!) at lower speed than you would get with an aft swept wing. In order to dampen out flutter effects you could add point masses at the maximum displacement positions – but in this case they’ve actually added more mass (ie two missiles) to the wingtip which acts as a node. This will make flutter effects even worse!

And at last, I don’t see the point in having this fin behind the cockpit glas. When you get a few degrees of AoA, it will have zero effect on the yaw stability.

    Castor

Thats certainly not true, when you say flutter, again I assume you mean vorcities. And at lower speed the vorcities instead of seperating and pulling off the wingtips to create huge drag inducing wing tip vortexes as on a normal reaward swept plane, instead stay on the wing and adhere to the wing to improve lift, especially to the upper rear part of the wing where airflow becomes sluggish.

And as for the fin on the back of the plane losing lift at AoA, if that were true, it would be true for the rudder also.

BTW, I hope you guys have noticed that the guy who made this model just by cutting out different parts from different models and just molded them together with putty. The forward part of the fuselage is an F-15 with Rafale canards stuck on it and the rear part of the the fuselage is an F-18, with F-22 rudders and reversed F-16 strakes under them. Wings could be Su-27 wings reversed, who knows what else.

I consider myself liberal, but in this case I agree with right wingers. You just cant hold the publics hand and try to make them live responcibly. Some times you just have to let them fail and build some clinics to take care of the aftermath.

“Looks great, but did they develop some new kind of super-stiff and light material ?”

    Yeah, carbon fiber

“If not, those wingtip rails would reduce manouverability of the aircraft drastically.(Since you had a very low g-limit) “

No, that type of wing planeshape increases maneuverability.

“Or you would get some weight problems, making the wing durable enough.”

The technology is just not there to make a forward swept wing structurally equal to a normal swept wing.

“And for what reason they placed this fin right in front of the airbrake (near the center of gravity) ?”

Im guessing for making the rudders more effective or for spin recovery

“Next thing are the rudders. They are placed behind the canards. I would assume that those turbulences generated by the canards would reduce the effectiveness of those rudders. “

No, the turbulence (vorcities) actually improve wing lift. They would only have an effect on the rudders at high AOA, and then less so than the wings.

“Further more this could cause some problems with vibrations. So again you would need a very strong (and heavy) structure… “

I dont see why the canards would cause vibrations anymore than any other canard fighter.

The same here: liberal means right wing (even ultra right wing).

I think that pretty much sums up French politics in general.

Aerodynamically there are no cons to this design. Structurally its a nightmare, and is a huge problem trying to find ways to make the wing strong enough to prevent wing twist (or as you say flutter). The Grumman X-29 was the US´s stab at this type of design.

    K8 – BJT
    H36 – IJT
    Pampa – AJT/COIN

Pampa was posted as it looked very similar to IJT. If you want to know more about K8, open another thread. 😡

Point taken. But I was asking for info about this new trainers (whats this thing called anyway? The H36?) export prospects in order to compare it to the K-8 which I feel would be its direct competitor. I think thats as relevent as comparing its looks to the Pampa.

Wachy- got any engine specs for this thing?

Hey genious, since when did the IJT THREAD become the K8 thread? stop making trouble here and go make a seperate thread.

Hey Burgerboy- Noone here is complaining about all the Pampa posts, and the K-8 is certainly more relevent to the Pampa since it will be in opositon to Indias trainer.

PLA- Thanks for the info, can you tell me if Pakistan has already started production on the K-8? And thanks for the specs Wachy.

I was reading a news snippet that says this new jet only took $38 million to develope. Will India export this jet? And how much will it cost if they do? Can someone post some basic specs for this jet. Im wondering if Pakistan is ever going to go through and replace their T-38s with K-8s?

I personally resent all the flap about the movie Faranheit 9/11 winning for political reasons. I believe a documentory is a type of film worthy of artistic merit even though its not made for artistic purposes. Thats why most film festivals have a documentory catogory. It takes artistic skill to make a documentory just as it does a regular film. I havent seen the film, but Im sure many found it entertaining, even though its entertainment is based on real life. Overall I think “reality” form of entertainment is a great thing even if its wasted on Jerry Springer type trailer trash spating.

As for violence in films recently. I personally think humans are violent by nature. And I believe suppression of our violent tendencys brings out the worst kind of violence in us, just as sexual suppresion brings out perversion in people.

When talking about Micheal Moore, you have to remember he is sort of achieved fame by accident. He originally made a film to harras the president of General Motors for shutting down an automobile plant in his hometown in Michigan. Some might say that makes him sort of a ludite depending on what you think about job outsourcing. To say that he is extreme left wing is way off. The more accurate truth is he is left wing in a very conservative moderate to right wing country.

Ill admit it, Ive never even heard of all the bands youve mentioned, except for the Pixies which Ive seen mentioned on this forum and had to do a yahoo search to find out who they were. I lived in Seattle in the mid to late 90s and can tell you that the image of them being a grunge/indie haven is a bit of a myth. They only have one alternative station called 107 The End, which plays crap reject grunge. The rest of the radio dial is filled with classic rock, they probably have about 10 classic rock stations just on FM. Then when I was in San Diego, they only have one heavy rock station that plays Tool, Creed and Metalica 24 hours a day, and a sort of lost alternative station whos stuck on Bob Marley.

something to remeber with china and taiwan is the close proximity of the two. land based weapons will be able to play a major role in ‘softening up’ a beach-head, which means a much much more intensive and sustained bombardment then is possible with only naval forces and airborne assets.

Land based weapons, by that you mean short ranges conventionally armed ballistic missles. The numbers of these you would have to launch to wipe out Taiwans air and sea defences as well as adequetly “soften up” a beach head would number in the thousands if not tens of thousands. So why not just save the expense and use nukes? So like I said, the only way China could take Taiwan is to nuke it.

If you want REAL online aircombat, you got to play Battlefield 1942! How many flight sims can bail out over an enemy airbase, lay mines on the runway, shoot all the guys manning AA, and then steal one of their fighters and continue to shoot down planes and bomb them with their own plane?
