    Perches.

Home at last! don’t you just love in-laws, looks like ive been beaten to the picture posting, mine are very much similar to mike j’s so i want clog up the thread by posting more..

Now the milestones hanger… on reflection i think it is superb but i can see some purists/enthusiasts not been particularly excited by it, i agree with Lancman there is no logical sequence to the exhibits however the way they are displayed is interesting and the building is bound to be popular with visitors. It does give the keen photographer something different.

I was suprised however at how small the exhibition space is, it seems that a third of the building space is taken up with a reception area, a first floor cafe (thats three at Hendon now!) and a ‘Control Tower’ exhibit which does have a bit of an ‘after thought’ feel to it.

The touch screens are excellent however a historic note on the actual air frame would have been nice.
I loved the Spitfire FSM in the reception area it looked very impressive!

On the way out it seems as though the ‘Historic Hangers and Bomber command Hall have had a bit of housekeeping done and they look superb.

If you stand under the nose of the Lanc looking out towards the Typhoon (yes the pearched one! 😉 ) it is superbly flanked by the Phantom and the Tornado, cracking photo!

Unfortunatly the Graeme White Hanger doesn’t open until 12 and i had to be home by 1! So thats one for next time.

Milestones is an excellent ‘showpiece’ and no doubt opinions will be greatly debated on this forum.

As far as im concerned, well i’d rather see Black 6 on Duxfords flight line and the P51 in the air however i greatly welcome this sort of investment in aviation heritage and i intend to support it!

This along with Duxfords ‘Airspace’ project and TVOC’s Lottery funding are proof that Aviation Heritage is supported and at least these aircraft are not housed in tatty old buildings or outside come to that!

Go along and give your support, it is something to be proud of.

More Perches than a bird cage!!!

A quick dash down the M1 to Hendon this morning, need to be at the out-laws in half an hour so heres a quick low down.

    In a word… ‘SUPERB’

I like the bright airy environment, the fact the airframes are not all squashed together(although that may change) so if you’re into photography go now you will love it.

The viewing balconies are superb with excellent touch screens for further info, the only downside is that the touch screens don’t give examples about the specific airframes!!!!

    The perched aircraft look super!!!

    more later….

    Flood!

Cheers Flood! i’m with you on this one….;)

    Thanks for the piccie’s Stringbag!

I always thought that of all the rare pictures published on this site ‘Key’ would publish a forum ‘Scrapbook’ type thing!!! Some of the profits could go to a Charity of our choice, with a vote on the forum?

In our daily morning meeting this morning i happened to point out that “today is the anniversary of 100 years of powered flight, by the Wright brothers in Kittyhawk USA”

Some of the guys seemed mildly interested until one of the girls said…

“Didn’t they release that song “You’ve lost that lovin feeling?”

    Serious! i kid you not!!

Von Perthes, I agree i think its one for a book, i quite like to reasearch any model i make or buy on the internet, not sure why just like to find out a bit more. Quite often i find contradicted info! Good fun tho. 🙂

Flood, cheers for that, youve told me more in that post than hours i spent on the net!!!

    Daz,

I remember the cornflakes BoB promo well.

As a 12 year old at the time i so wanted those planes, but you had to buy about 3 tonnes of corn flakes! and as a 12 year old i hated cornflakes with a passion (v boring!) any way rather than buy the 12 boxes required and throw away the cornflakes, mum insisted that she wouldn’t buy another box until we had eaten the others!… so… that year i must have made about 3000 choclate covered cornflake cakes, my mates took the pi55 as whilst they were out playing football i was making cakes!!!!!

any who got my planes in the end!!!!!

    Naah!!!

Discovery Wings are showing loads of programmes, as are the History channel and some of the other satalite channels.

As for the Beeb and ITV, well it just aint sexy enough because:

    No one gets voted out,

    Simon Cowell can’t judge it,

    theres no scandal,

no opportunity for us to text our votes,

where could they put hidden cameras.

To be honest im glad the Beeb and ITV arn’t bothering. There programming sucks and i hate paying license fees!

Can you imagine, they would probably do a 100 years of flight ‘Big Brother’ special, locking a load of idiots inside a plane for six weeks…

    God i hate telly!
