With the amount of money the US government is spending on the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, is it possible the acquisition program for both the Super Hornet and JSF could be reduced if not soon, later on during the program?

I spoke with a USN PAO who had told me that during a deployment to the Gulf in 2002, the USN and the French Navy had closely worked together during operations in Afghanistan and it was then that the CdG’s capabilities were exploited. While French Rafale Ms executed a few traps aboard the American carrier, the Americans did the same with their aircraft. While they had no problems with their smaller fighters (Hornet), they did experience a few scares with their Hawkeyes, just as the French Navy does with theirs. The point being that, if they can operate the AWACS aircraft from the CdG’s deck, I am sure they can operate the Super Hornet from the French carrier as well.

    What a HUGE mistake……..

AgreeD! Should they decide to close New London, after the recommendations are reviewed, where would the submarines based there be stationed? As well, with the Virginia-class subs slowly coming into service, where, along the east coast would these assets be stationed? Is there any more room at Norfolk or would they simply focus their submarine force in one location? If so, which would it be?

Pakistan is apparently ready to receive its next batch of Fighting Falcons. The website http://www.f-16.net reports that the Pakistani government has signed a letter of intent for the purchase of 55 Block 52 F-16s with options for another 20. Apparently, this was more than what Lockheed Martin had originally anticipated.

    fully owned by the government.

Thanks! That would expect why politics could have a lot to do with the decision.

Is it possible Fed Ex would have made them an offer they couldn’t refuse?

I am wondering, is AI owned by the Indian government or is it privatly ran?

For air-to-air I’d go with the Mirage 2000-5, but for air-to-ground give me the Tornado GR.4 any day.

I think that if the GR.4 ever gets ASRAAM it would be quite capable of defending itself though. (and it at least still has one gun….I wish the Mirage 2000D had at least one cannon left)

I agree with your analysis! The Mirage 2000-5 would be my choice for air superiority while the Tornado GR4 would be my machine of choice when flying a deep strike mission into enemy territory.

So then, I guess Boeing could hand back the $6bln in subsidies Japan gave Boeing to design and produce the 787! Airbus has been paying back its subsidies with interest as these were part of the agreements made with various European government.
On the other hand, I did read your post, it’s just that particular segment which remained etched into my mind!

    🙂
I’m not assuming a problem free development of the 787. Its very probably the 787 will have a few program hiccups.
I am saying that the 787 is the leader and the A350 is a poor match as it stands. Airbus do not have the resources to develop an effective one on one 787 competitor.

I’m also saying that the A380 has a while to go before it recoups money and until it does Airbus cannot commit to another full development program. Mainly due to the agreement of no more start up aid.

And as for my footnote if you want to exchange tit for tat, tell me, which manufacturer recently failed to meet its promised performance targets for its then flagship aircraft? 😉

I just would like you to explain how Airbus doesn’t have the resources needed to develop an effective counter to the 787! If they have the resources to develop an aircraft like the A380, what makes you think they don’t have the resources to push ahead with the A350. Would you be referring to their finacial state or to the capabilities of Airbus’s design department?

They say Dhafra and Minhad-if they’re at Dhafra, I’ll get pictures later this year 😎

I use to live in Abu Dhabi and at the time Al-Dhafra was but a glimmer in the eyes of the UAE’s department of defense. The only air base I can remember was the old international airport where the Royal flight was located. Seeing Mirage 2000EAD take off for CAP patrols over the Gulf was an every day occurence.
If you are in the UAE, pictures of these beautiful aircraft would be much appreciated! Dare I ask what you might be doing in the UAE.

How is EK’s order a sure thing? Everyone thought that NW and Korean Air were sure bets for the A350 and yet, both airlines opted to move toward the B787?

There was a report made last week that Air India would take Airbus to court if it continued to hound them on AI’s recent order for six billion dollars worth of aircraft. In light of this account, doesn’t this give Airbus a leg to stand on?
As well, doesn’t this show that the United States will go to any length to score the large contracts? I realize that certain European governments have done the same but it would seem that the American arm of influence can reach a little further. What would happen if these accusations were found to be true? What actions would the Indian government take to remedy apparent signs of corruption within its wings? Considering how long it takes India’s government to complete an approval for an acquisition program, would there be enough time to reopen the tender for further study?

As much as this could turn into another endless thread of various opinions as to whom deserves this order more than the other, it is interesting to know that Euronews announced that Airbus would be announcing an important order for 50 jets in the near future. The report didn’t elaborate as to which airline had placed the order or which model it concerned. This report was filed shortly after EADS made its first quarter report to its major shareholders.
Now here’s the big question! Would this be Emirates, Qatar, Etihad or another airline such as Singapore. Time wil tell! Which ever way one wants to look at it, Airbus might have a very good third quarter!
