Just watched a repeat on BBC4. Absolutely humbled by the bravery and can-do (sorry for the Americanism) attitude of those women.
Wonderful stuff, despite the alleged errors (not a slight on you, Graham, just my knowledge on this subject is low) and a worthy tribute to the Women of the ATA.
“I flew 72 types” – Wow! From fighters to heavy bombers, amazing skill.
Glad to report that Ms.Nearne wasn’t as lonely as first thought and that she will get the send-off she so richly deserves.

For airports try AirNav.com.
And for info on the general airband, try SMeter.net.
Erm, just watched that video and towards the end the reporter clearly says it won’t fly.
I believe that this could be considered a sub-editor’s error. The reporter has done her research, it’s not her fault those not on the front line c**ked up.
Due credit where it’s due, please.
[Disclosure: I am a journo and also despair at much aviation ‘reporting’]
Here’s a picture of a Stirling Nav Panel, as you can see if you look closely it states Static Vent in full under the ASI. can’t quite decipher the third word though, can anyone help?
Best I can make out is ‘Enabled’.
Most likely the wandering Spit discussed on this thread.
Wow! That must be unique! And how kind of the authorities in Kiel to remember the man and men under his command who avoided further loss of life on both sides as well as preventing, as is said by Major Hibbert, the possibility of the Russians taking the city and more.
I missed this when you posted it, BN, I was looking for something else but I’m glad I found this. Heartwarming.
Didn’t the turret have cut-off triggers to stop the guns firing when pointed towards the propellors and tailplane?
More Nigerian wrecks, here at my old stomping ground, Kaduna. Not great definition in the Google Maps image, though. But there are a couple of Migs (probably 17s or 21s).
what possible reason could I put forward for you using one?”
“Well….you could tell them I designed it!”
Sorry, too good to resist.
Aaaaaahhhh! Explains that, must look at the video myself.
This picture would suggest not. But I’m no expert so doubtless somebody will be along shortly to better inform you.
