It has come through and it looks amazing – what a great relic!
Also I have to echo everyone’s compliments Ken, beautiful build!
Good man. A rarely-seen era in aviation history that deserves to be preserved and showcased.
Plus, how cool would it be to fly in an R-4?!
Me too. I was excited when it was announced Christopher Nolan was directing a Dunkirk movie. I was really excited when I saw the behind-the-scenes photos in the early days of this thread. I was super excited with the first trailer. Now I’m lost for words – it looks amazing!
Is that Harry Styles giving the “We shall fight them on the beaches” monologue VO? I knew he was in it but didn’t realise he was playing Churchill 😉
A couple of years ago they ran a “12 Planes Of Christmas” fundraising campaign and the R-4 was one of the projects being promoted, and – for me at least – the most exciting of the lot. So pleased to see it at HAI!
Thanks Errol, that’s what was burned into my memory.
I love the second photo – from my viewpoint the XIV looked a lot closer! It was a fantastic thing to see.
The Panjandrum provided a fantastic show on Sunday and appeared to work as designed, laying a major smokescreen and exploding most impressively against a “German” emplacement to much applause from the crowd!
I escaped the ban, perhaps the culprit thought I’d voted for his orange friend?
As I said on WIX, and probably on Facebook later today, big kudos to you and the team for an amazing project. And to the owner for allowing you to share so much. It’s been fascinating to follow.
@Creaking Door: “Wouldn’t an Allison-engined Me110 or Ju87 rely on there being Merlin-engined versions going spare?” Huh?
Love it so much. Bravo to all involved!
It makes for an amazing display! On the Saturday at this last Omaka show the Spitfire XIV “intercepted” the V-1 very convincingly! A fleeting moment that was a highlight of the show for me. No tipping, though.
Yet…
“The Il-2 popped up out of nowhere, so I look forward to further surprises.” – Although the Jumo has been photographed, I remain confident this is exactly what will happen with the Paul Allen Stuka.
Allisons – I was thinking about using them for replicas/new-builds in the countries where such aircraft are allowed, rather than in originals where there’s no other option.
Just fantastic. Bravo Ian and co, keep up the great work!
Going by how long this took to be thought of, I expect to see an Allison-engined Heinkel around 2056. 😉
Also: Allison-engined Stuka, anyone?
I understand John Smith has asked people not to share photos of his collection online but if you have permission I’d love to see them!
