Case in point: I haven’t posted any congratulations yet on Facebook as I’d forgotten who started the project and I didn’t want to ignore their efforts.
Great to see this one fly.
I think only one airshow here this season was advance-only: the RNZAF’s 80th Anniversary Air Tattoo. I don’t believe it’s very common in New Zealand yet.
One show this season was cancelled due to weather and refunds for pre-paid tickers were automatic and, I understand, in full. Not sure how that’s a cynical cashgrab by the organisers!
Excellent news. The Lightning episode of Test Pilot starring XS422 was always my favourite!
OZFURYFAN – thanks, I had no idea. I always assumed the Fury had a solid wing.
Apparently this story’s doing the rounds again – War History Online or one of its relatives, and still with a photo of TB863 flying at Wanaka – but I can’t find an identity for the aircraft. Considering tracking down his agent to ask as was suggested, but has anyone ever found out more? Goodall doesn’t have the word “Pitt” anywhere in the Vickers Supermarine section!
I know it’s dressed as a Fury but I thought it had always been of the nautical variety!
“I guess the 2-seater Buchon might not be that attractive for potential passengers as a G-12 might be.” – exactly. It seems almost facetious to ask why they converted it to DB power and G-12 configuration over a Buchon trainer. I can’t imagine the sort of person keen on flying in, and having their photo taken in, a “Messerschmitt 109G-12” would be as excited to fly in a blue, bubble-topped Buchon. Not everyone believes “real Messerschmitts have Merlins” :eagerness:
If you have the money, why not a QEC? Makes sense technically, if not fiscally!
Ah War History Online, years late as always.
Classic Wings had a great article on Bob and his MJ-100 in 2004. Well worth tracking down if you’re interested in the type. That EAA video is a good watch. From memory it has King Air wheels and brakes.
I don’t do FS anymore but I may get back into it for a Vega or Gull Six!
Classic Wings/Classic Wings Downunder had a great spread on VH-UTP several years ago. I’ll track down my copy and PM you for your email so I can scan it through.
Thanks John, much appreciated! I’d have had no clue.
Daz: maybe I should start buying up local stocks to send to you as the recent(ish) Academy boxing retails for NZ$26.99…my trusty currency converter says that’s about GBP14.35!
I wonder if she’ll receive the DB>Merlin>DB QEC mod recently unveiled for the G-12 conversion?
Wonderful, absolutely wonderful to see the lights on! And bravo to Kobe and Ben, while it’s been nice to see their work on here I can’t imagine the experience they’ve had. Awesome.
I’ve got my eye on an old Matchbox Meatbox model kit for when the 1:1 version is complete.
Fouga23: Pen Pusher kindly brought it to our attention way back in the days of Post #260, here’s a news article: http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/cambridge-news/imperial-war-museum-duxford-12976666
Trolly Aux: to be fair, I was expecting others to suggest that’s what is needed :eagerness: It doesn’t affect me one way or the other.
I have conflicting feelings about this. I’ve always loved Buchons – the first “109” I was ever aware of was G-BOML – but the concept of a non-pilot being able to fly behind a DB is intoxicating. At least it’s a QEC config and not permanent (I can imagine the uproar) – and if it means more flying hours for the airframe then all the better.
Plus, as Shane Blakeley said on Facebook: “I guess it’s a good thing it ain’t y’alls aircraft huh?”
Counting down to someone suggesting they do to the tent and its contents what was done on that spot in 1968 in 3…2…
