Also details the other 4’s fate – Canada, Brussels, Peter Jackson (x2) and South Yorks
One of Sir Peter’s Weston frames was on display at the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre from its opening until a year or two ago, placed in a period workshop display. It was quite exciting to see after having read so much about them over the years!
I seem to remember reading an article in Aeroplane or Flypast regarding the restoration to flight of several Luftwaffe types(ALL Genuine) in the UK somewhere. I think there was Ju87, Me109, Me110 and Fw190 mentioned. Haven’t heard or seen anything since that article, anyone else remember seeing or hearing anything?

An interesting rabbit hole to go down that has been the topic of much discussion – Glenn Lacey and RLM Aviation:

Where did the Red Tail filming replicas go?
A fine question! I was amazed when I saw them in the movie – I had to rewind to check I wasn’t seeing things!
The one in Russia has same shape issues, based on the photos I’ve seen online. I think another was built and flown in Eastern Europe too. Two Louis Langhurst replicas were built, only N87LL remains (the other crashed and killed the pilot) and there is recent-ish footage of it on YouTube. I believe the example at Omaka is the only 1:1 replica.
The FHCAM example is the most likely prospect for a flier, I think. My fingers are crossed for photos of it flying to appear one day out of the blue, as happened with their Shturmovik!
A quick Google suggests the 2012 price was around US$800,000-US$955,000 each.
Fantastic! Congratulations to everyone involved!
I can now confirm that 788 will be restored as “C” of 1 Air Navigation School in the silver and orange scheme she wore in the 1960’s
I said a while ago 788 had a bright future, didn’t I?!!
Sigh! Sounds like a fantastic choice! The finished door looks great.
Please forgive my ignorance: what is the tiny machine marked N540? It is a super-small-scaled replica of something?
From memory FHC doesn’t have any of its camo’d aircraft in gloss so I don’t know if that was ever a possibility.
A worthy story to be told. It’s sobering to think I’m the same age Wagner was when he was killed.
Interior photos of ZK-EPG taken yesterday: http://nzcivair.blogspot.co.nz/2017/03/some-interior-shots-of-zk-epg-taken-on.html
I’m sure I’ve seen photos of ‘RUK too. Possibly in Classic Wings/Downunder? I seem to remember a front-3/4 shot with Ron standing next to it, the caption stating that it was an hour or so before the crash.
An update on the Bristol from NZ Civil Aircraft (beware: incorrect apostrophe usage): http://nzcivair.blogspot.co.nz/2017/03/ardmore-bristol-freighter-gets-rnzaf.html
Yesterday afternoon (13/3) I noted two RNZAF truck’s unloading equipment near the Bristol Freighter, this afternoon a further delivery was made, and RNZAF staff were working on the aircraft. I understand that the RNZAF are providing equipment and staff to help remove the aircraft’s wings and to help prepare it for shipment to it’s new home in the UK as a training exercise. While it will be sad in some way’s to see this long term Ardmore resident depart it is good to know that it is going to a worthy final resting place.
A fantastic pair of updates! Thanks for sharing, gents.
One day I’ll be able to afford one of those new Airfix Shack kits. No prizes for guessing which serial I’ll be applying!
Um.. it’s an NF.14 – clear canopy is the give-away.
Sorry, I misread.
Great stuff Blue! Boy does that NF.11 have some stencils!
