As Mike alluded to on the other thread, we may be looking at two aircraft coming to the UK; neither of them the TPM project. Interesting times.
Indeed! Very interesting.
As far as I know PZ474 is for Rod Lewis – I hadn’t seen the ownership mentioned anywhere public until now – and TV959 was purchased by Paul Allen/FHC (although photos of it arriving at Ardmore vanished from the ‘net soon after). I thought Glyn’s machine was the BHHH one but was informed that it’s not – I’ve not heard anything about the disposition of NZ2308 since it was listed for sale with Platinum in February last year.
So I’m very curious to see which ID BHHH has, and to learn more about the other project! Who knows where PF670/N9868F is?
A couple of months ago I asked TPM on Twitter how much had been raised to date. The answer was GBP26,500.
I commented on their Facebook page about the VTTS involvement by suggesting the BHHH project would take away the uniqueness (unlike the Vulcan), and that although it’s privately owned in all likelihood it will also fly first – and possibly with passenger flights/rides.
“Time will tell Zac. But, no it won’t be unique if there are two of them flying – and obviously we would be wanting somewhat if we were to market it as such. We have already spoken in public about offering flights in RL249. That will depend on current CAA rules of course, at the time the aircraft becomes airworthy.”
I’m as sceptical now about it as I was in 2011. Maybe more so after the Biggin Hill announcement – it would surely be hard to fundraise for a project when an identical one is already in the works/flying from an established team with relevant experience.
I was just about to post that! After the anti-Farnborough chat I’m keen to read the comments about this development.
Exactly! I have a deerstalker to wear if need be, now I just need a magnifying glass! :eagerness:
Seafuryfan – Google Maps says 4hr37m without traffic.
It’s been a week since the announcement on the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar’s Facebook page of the Mosquito project and there haven’t been any public updates (mind you I haven’t been to Facebook for a couple of hours!). Has anyone heard anything, be they tiny whispers or major scoops?
I’m trying to be patient. Honest!
The Camel point has been put to him in interviews, and he has agreed.
I’ve also seen Keith Skilling and Corsairs mentioned.
I think Mr DeMarco has the most Camel hours full-stop, although I’ve no way to confirm that.
Kiwi pilot John Lamont seems to have flown every civil P-40 ever in NZ, his total time on type must be fairly high.
It would be lovely to see a Mosquito in the air again, although I would guess that it would have limited appeal to the
general public. More for the aircraft enthusiasts I would say.
Based on the numbers at NZ shows where KA114 flew I’d have to disagree. There were several thousand people present for the Mosquito Launch Spectacular show, not to mention the larger-than-normal crowd at Wings Over Wairarapa. There was also widespread coverage of the aircraft in the mainstream media.
Great to see! Thanks for taking the time to reach out to them Geoff, and for sharing the reply.
So, out of curiosity, what would the current serial be?
Glynn Powells website lists it as NZ2308. (is this not it’s most current identity?)
It is NZ2308 at present and whenever I’ve read mention of it, it’s NZ2308. I had thought this was the machine involved in the BHHH project but I’ve been told otherwise privately.
Also, I’m 99.98% sure the aircraft in Mark12’s photograph is NZ2308.
The 109E was also sold, and is somewhere in the UK (Biggin Hill?).
I was hoping today would bring a proper news release or some info, but that’s just my youthful impatience! I’m looking forward to learning more whenever the BHHH team are ready to do so.
See posts #5 & #8 on Page 1 of this thread 😉
I mentioned that airframe in post #9, but now I’m not so sure. It certainly will be interesting to find out which one it is, as I wasn’t aware of any available projects.
Presumably the project thinks that these issues can be successfully addressed.
I agree, I’m guessing the BHHH folks have been working behind-the-scenes on the paperwork side for some time before making the post yesterday.
I’m excited to find out which identity it is – I think it would make eight Mosquitos in New Zealand during the restoration period! What amazing times we live in.
While nowhere near the quality of the video of KA114 posted on the previous page, here’s my own look at her debut show in 2012 as a taster for you all in the UK:
I think “What Comes Next” was announced about 20hr ago: http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?136930-Biggin-Hill-Mosquito! :eagerness:
Wow! Awesome news for you UK folks!!
I think you might be right Bruce – I can’t see NZ2308 on the Platinum Fighters website anymore…
From a quick Google search the original had x2 4.7l 450hp Straight 8 engines, whereas the replica has two 1300cc Hayabusa motorbike engines.
