    RE: Hate particular Airline/ Aircraft?

Well, you can usually fly LHR-JFK for about GBP 200-ish, which is a reasonably long flight.

I’m not trying to insinuate anything about domestic US travel, its just that I am having a hard time figuring out how comparable services really are.

Prices probably are lower in the US, at least by comparison to the UK. I used to have to pay GBP 300 return from the Isle of Man to LHR, which is a 50 minute-ish sector in a BAE 146. On a lot of routes here we have a monopoly though. But is price the only basis for comparison?

    RE: American Invation and Agression

The other main point is that US justice is widely regarded as a joke.

If you can afford a good lawyer (eg O J Simpson) then you will be found not guilty. If you can’t afford a good lawyer you will get 18 consecutive life sentences for stealing a loaf of bread.

Plus, one aspect of the Court is its credibility. In the eyes of the world, neither the US Courts nor the US Goverment has sufficient credibility. Our Dutch friends are OK, however.

A common perception (and one in which I believe) is that most Americans have a closed mind and they will moralise about anything and everything, usually concluding that anyone who disagrees with them must be a communist or a terrorist – which only adds to my point above. Most European countries on the other hand, place the rule of law ahead of all else. Certainly the British do, and other Europeans also do so.

    RE: Flag colors

The flag which I uploaded was Bahrain.

It has only two colours – white (swords) and red (blood). Not sure which battle it represents though, as there were no colonial conflicts.

I don’t know how comparable US and European domestic flights are.

Honestly, I have no idea what the price comparison is like. Do you think US domestic flights are cheap, expensive…what? And European flights by comparison? Exactly which currency and which rate of exchange would you use?

How about extra services provided by Euro carriers such as better security and newer aeroplanes (no nasty old 727’s or DC-9’s) – all at the risk of generalising of course. Is there any difference in legroom or in the quality of tea bags they use?

As we have seen with the launch of the Euro, price comparisons across borders are very difficult to do.

    Kev,

I know, that was the point of my second line about not telling wives/gf’s.

I just found it quite amusing that Andrew was pounced on! I was no better at his age as most men will probably admit.

Still…you’ve gotta question her motives. Did she make eye contact with you Andrew ????????

    RE: Argentina

    Different perspective I guess, Keltic.

There is joy here about the Argentine exit. That country is tinged with enmity for most English people. Mostly in a footballing sense, because Argentina always cheat against England and they do not play fair. But also, being politically incorrect, there is resentment from when they invaded the Falklands.

Also, they were very arrogant at the World Cup and arrogant teams deserve to go home!

RE: Re God on his side

Wow – that’s throwing the gauntlet down to mixtec!

I agree with the sentiment though. Dubya reminds me of the Boers of a hundred years ago who believed they could do whatever they wanted because God was on their side. The unfortunate thing was that they nearly got away with it…

    RE: France–kicked out!!

    Germany??

I think they will have an easy ride to the quarter finals. I worked out about a week ago that they would probably play Portugal there.

So anyone fancy an England vs. Germany final?

As long as the Japs give us two bars of the anthem as per usual we’ll win!
