RE: American Invation and Agression
Sorry that my post is out of sync, the website would not load all the pages.
Dutchy:
Yes, “vitor” was supposed to be “victor” – sorry, typo.
I still don’t see why current leaders could not be arrested. It may stop them from travelling I supposse. But isn’t that a good thing?
If they are suspected war criminals, we want to limit their effectiveness as much as possible.
Any hopefully, the voters will take action and demand a referendum or an election to get rid of any leader who refuses to go on trial.
I just think it would be a practical way to get rid of uncivilised people like Bush and Sharon and, yes, Arafat.
RE: A little faith for everyone.
Ditto
Nice scene, shame about the religion bit.
RE: France–kicked out!!
Snowman
Do you mean the Silvestre who plays for Man Utd?
Hmmm…he has potential but I’m not convinced. Certainly not as a left back, I think Lizarazu is still a better player. Would probably do a better job at centre half than Lebouef though!
I also think Candela is a useful player – how versatile do you think he is? Now you mention it, Makelele has impressed me alongside Zidane this season, yet France didn’t make maximum use of him. Was he unfit?
RE: France–kicked out!!
It all went wrong for Les Bleus when Robert Pires was injured. Talk about Zidane, but Pires was really on form and could have replaced Zidane as the creative spark.
What I cannot fathom is how France persisted with players like Desailly (too old) and, especially, Lebouef (useless). Surely there are better French defenders?
If I was the coach, I would have played Thuram in central defence to replace Lebouef. Not his best position, but he is nontheless a good defender.
RE: American Invation and Agression
Well I think this would never, in reality, happen. It would lead to war, in which the US would be defeated.
An intersting point was raised about the Western leaders being indicted as war criminals for their role in Yugoslavia. I agree that they should be investigated and, where found guilty, should be sentenced. International courts will never be taken seriously whilst it remains seen as “vitors justice” in which only the losers are ever guilty of anything.
I see no reason why such a principle cannot be applied to current leaders, such as Bush or Blair. The Americans will scream bloody murder if their glorious President is arrested, but who cares what they think? It is like the family of a murderer crying when he is arrested – pathetic and undignified.
RE: C’est fini
Oh come on Jonesy, I am delighted the French are out!
As far as I know, the last time the champions were eliminated was in 1966 when the Brazilians were sent home. Could this be a repeat of 1966?
RE: Please be honest.
Indeed, why hide? Just pointless.
I’m British, born on the Isle of Man (where I now live) but raised mostly in England with 5 or 6 years abroad.
Not sure if I’m English or Manx! Bit of an identity crisis I guess. At least both places are British.
RE: American Invation and Agression
Turn it through 180 degrees mixtec.
What if the Dutch parliament decreed that any Dutch citizens at Camp X-Ray could be forcibly extracted?
It is equally justifiable. More so in fact, because the Americans are not treating these people with courtesy and respect. I rather suspect the Dutch would at least be civil to those in their custody.
RE: American Invation and Agression
Why do they have the right to rescue US citizens?
If I, as a British citizen, was arrested in the US the British goverment could not legally mount a rescue mission!!
Is this just in relation to the war crime tribunal or is it in general?
RE: Favourite Cockpit?
Lockheed L1011 Tristar
Nice and roomy – bigger than a 747.
RE: Swiss in ONEWORLD?
I don’t wholly agree with the hub proximity argument.
You are right in pointing out the Dublin or Madird hubs being closer than Zurich, but I would at least make one point…
Iberia doesn’t have too much route overlap with BA. Apart from the big money transatlantic ones (JFK etc..) BA has a much wider North American network. Iberia by contrast, has a large Latin America network.
Aer Lingus is not a substantial transatlantic player, at least by comparison to Swiss. BA has often seen Lingus as a feeder carrier! Additionally, they are teetering on the edge of bankruptcy at the moment so are in no fit state to hurt BA.
RE: What did you think of the Jubilee flypast?
The remembrance day flypast, when a Lancaster dropped poppies – that was nearly as good.
The Queen will not abdicate. It is verging on the unconstitutional to do that, because a Monarch is a Monarch for Life. Abdication really only occurs when a Monarch is unable to perform their duties (ie. marry American divorcees!!)
RE: Whats your fave sport?
Footie, Footie, Footie…
I enjoy snooker and pool, but I’m not especially good (unless I’m drunk!)
Speaking of bikes though, the Isle of Man is like a bike showroom at the moment. Wherever you go, there are hundreds and hundreds…
