Now you see why I said I was English, not Manx

I don’t think its an issue of “not being European”. For the last 20 years, the UK has increasingly become vehemently opposed to the EU, and that is now part of our culture. We associate the EU with Europe, because all our neighbours are in love with the dreaded EU.
Like I said, Britions do by and large hate the EU.
Well, isn’t the answer simple?
CHANGE THE EU
MAKE IT DEMOCRATIC!
MAKE IT ACCOUNTABLE!
REMEMBER MARTA ANDREASEN.
If that happened, the whole thing would be smoother and the UK might even become a willing and major partner. What I honestly don’t understand, is how other countries are still keen to integrate more closely, when the EU is so corrupt, incompetent and anti-democracy: the EU makes even the UN look professional!

Good job you weren’t in Greece, they’d have your head!

I’m not anti European, really. I have been one of those Brits going to Spain for a holiday, and shall do again at some point.
Like I said, anti EU but not anti European.
You make a very valid point about Scotland and Wales being “squashed” by England to form the UK. But that is not a justification to allow the UK to be equally “squashed” by the U.S.E!
And that’s what we’re really talking about isn’t it? A United States of Europe, where countries like Spain and Britain are nothing more than mere States, not sovereign nations any more. Do you really think Spain can retain her national identity under those circumstances?

Thanks for the offer Keltic, but I found some this afternoon. The make is “Lyons”. I bought 15 of them, which should last ages – I think the checkout girl gave me a funny look for buying so much coffee!

I think BA always viewed it as a “loss leader” that added prestige to the fleet. As long as it broke even, they didn’t mind. A profit was a nice bonus. But sustained losses are not on really!
Branson will see it in the same way.
Monster,
I’m not trying to be flippant, although my style of writing can sometimes appear that way. All I meant was that CX can probably tough it out on the sorts of losses you mention, for quite a few months yet.
Well done Hand, it’s time someone joined my crusade to convince people security is complete rubbish these days!
Posted by Keltic – Do you really think the rest of European countries want to annoy the UK?. No country in the whole EU have showed themselves as anti european as the UK, and we all love our countries, we all enjoy democracy, we haven´t dropped our identity. I think the UK is quite rooted in Europe, just observe the habbits of people. What they drink, eat, observe, how they dressed where they go on holidays…..all european habbits. Europe is much more than institutions or political concepts, but people, ideas, societies and history which shapes people. And in a way, the US also comes from European ideals.
1. You haven’t dropped your identity YET. Wait until you get common foreign/defence/tax policies. The EU is like Russia and all its members are like the “republics” of the USSR – they will be utterly subjugated. That is what the EU is trying to do and people just keep saying “well, it needs reform” but NOBODY WILL EVER REFORM IT, BECAUSE THEY HAVEN’T EVEN TRIED TO YET.
2. UK is anti-European. NO, just anti-EU.
3. Our peoples have similar habbits. YES. We have similar habbits to the Australians, but I don’t see us becoming one country!
