Interflug, I read in another thread you are working back at STN again. What do you do now, and who do you work for? My dad has been made redundant from FLS, the second time he has been made redundant on the airport in 12 months 🙁

Yes Bhoy, made by Lockheed Martin. They are of a fairly similar design though….who copied who?! 😉

Surely that’s an achievement though?! We can do it with 1 terminal and 1 runway, yet MAN need all that extra. There are definite plans now for STN to get it’s second runway though, they’re just getting a lot of trouble at the moment from local people (not me!) as it means building over about 10 miles of countryside, including 2 villages. At one point they wanted to turn STN into Europe’s biggest airport, with 4 runways, and capable of handling 120 million pax. I think this was just a scare though, so that when they announce just one extra runway, people are relieved!

Great report, sounds like BHX is a nice place. I may get there one day I suppose, although it would mean a very long train journey if I wanted to go spotting! Atleast i could get a proper viewing area, quite a rarity down here in the South East.

I’d keep an eye on that one (stopthefighting). His lack of punctuation and spelling points in the direction of richard and skylinerworld, and they’re the kind of people who would try it at the same time.

On the subject, I made my own database using Microsoft Works. Works just how it needs to be, and I have set the filter to be able to draw up all different types of information. And…it was free! 😀

As far as I know it’ll just be to Antwerp, but I’m not entirely sure yet. This is what they did last year, whether they’re planning any more for this year I don’t know. Well some would say STN is nearing it’s capacity, if MAN needs 2 runways, but then look at LGW. LGW can do more than 30 million pax a year with one runway, although i think that would be pushing it a bit for STN!

The flyjet flights I think still have to be confirmed, although I suppose it is likely to be places such as the Canarie and Spain. i have also heard they are quite a poor airline, althought any new flight from STN is good enough for me! Not only does it do good for the airport, it also means more registrations, more spotting and more photos 😀

Great report, and I’m glad you enjoyed STN! Although I am likely to be biased in my opinion of it, I too think it’s the best terminal I have stepped foot in. Especially when you compare it to LGW and LHR, low ceilings, cramped, stuffy and generally worn out (although I have to admit, the shopping centre in LGW–North terminal is very nice!:D )

Is N608FE a regular at STN?

Yes I usually go to that spot if I just want to get reg’s, as it is one place where you don’t get moved away. However, if I want to take photos then I have to be in the approach fields, which tend to be monitored quite harshly by the police and security.

I have seen N608FE a fair few times yes, but then I have seen a big majority of their MD-11 fleet. The MD-11’s operate out of here about 4 or 5 times a day, and they’re usually different aircraft each time I see them.

No they don’t Concorsesst. BA like to concentrate their activities at LGW and LHR, although they’re gonna have to start looking for other places some day. The situation down there is getting very desperate, and there is hardly room for any more flights. The only BA aircraft you are likely to see at STN is their RJ100 which seems to operate charters on a daily basis. We did used to have a scheduled BA flight to MAN, but Eastern Airways has since taken over.

Another one that you could call party BA, is Global Supply Systems with their 744F’s.

I agree, the BAA are terrible. They own the 3 main lodnon airports (LHR, LGW, STN) aswell as others such as GLA and EDI, yet none of these have viewing areas. And other than MAN, the BAA airports must have the highest passenger numbers out of all of the other UK airports. Not only that, they seem to be under very tight agreements with the police and security. I’m not sure what it’s like in GLA and EDI, but down here in the South it’s ridiculous. Getting the police on me just because I decided to lock my bike up in a little wooded area so i could take a bus down to the terminal 😡

From Stansted, I miss the old EAL and Ryanair 1-11’s, and also the countless Tristars. I also really miss Air Uk as a whole, a great little airline. Such a shame they’re not still around, brilliant livery aswell. I remember one of my very first flights was on one of their F100’s to CDG.

I was once stranded in Ibiza all night after our BY 767 on it’s way from LGW to pick us up, had to turn home when a woman had a heart attack on board.

Also when i was flying Astraeus from Egypt back to LGW, we had to land in Crete for several hours after a woman was having chest problems. As far as I know she survived though.

Thanks a lot wys, great work! And a great amount of time and effort too. Thanks to the webbie aswell, shame it had to take so long. Just need to hope we can get back some of the other members, ie. Steve Rowell and Hand. I’m still not clear on exactly who has been banned from the forum, is that allowed to be discussed here?:)

RIPConcorde, what are the passenger numbers for EDI? Sounds quite busy.

The current figurs for STN are around the 19.5 Million pax mark, with MAN slightly ahead with just over 20 million pax 😀
