I know the feeling. Here’s a shot I took at sunrise at Heathrow last August. It was a BA 747 which did a go-around right above my head, and you can see it climbing away with the wheels just tucking in. It eventually got accepted on jp.net but no-one else seemed to like it as much as I thought it might.

45 minutes on the train from the Stansted Airport train station in the terminal, goes straight to Liverpool Street which is right in the centre of the Underground network and will be the easist way to get around and see the sights. Trains are about every half hour.
Otherwise about an hour on the National Express coach to London Victoria, another station on the Underground.
Excellent work Adam.
Haven’t had chance to get in contact with you since we met at STN a few months ago. Up for that sunrise LHR trip sometime?!
I’d just like to add a bit to what Andy (Skymonster) hadsaid further up, about making air travel more hassle, less people wanting to fly, flying becoming less convenient, the industry becoming smaller etc. I think I have to agree.
I work part-time at Stansted and saw all of the chaos of cancelled flights last week (and the ridiculously long security queues which continue this week). Now, say you were a family going on their holiday to France or Spain (as an example) and you had booked your flights on Easyjet or Ryanair because you deemed it to be the quickest and least stressful way of reaching the continent. Then, you turn upto the airport last Thursday, to see your flight cancelled and a terminal full of un-organised and confused passengers and staff. Then say the next day you had re-booked, hoping to get on holiday asap, and flights are cancelled again. A few days later, once a majority of flights are back up and running, you finally get to travel. And then you have to go through the hassle of meeting the ever-changing security and hand-baggage requirements. You may finally get to your destinaton, that’s if you haven’t given up….
The following year, you go to book your holiday to the Continent again. And immediately you’ll think “stuff flying – lets not even bother with the difficulty we had last year” and you’ll end up driving via the Eurotunnel or the Ferry. That’s just one example out of many I could think of, which could lead to the current situation causing air passenger numbers to fall quite considerably.
Nice work Paul, shame that you happened to visit STN at the least exciting part of the day!
The control tower is quite impressive….here’s a few shots I took a couple of years ago (excuse the quality, very old camera).
Looking up, from the bottom.
The terminal.
A long way down….
Cargo ramp….right infront of the tower.
A few nice colours…
And looking out towards the other satellites.
Sorry Paul, I’ll take these off your thread if you like! Just thought it may be of some interest to you and others…
Great shots Tom. Was pleased to get Blue Peter home, although at the time it was the least important thing on my mind. If only I could share mine 🙁 Ah well, glad you enjoyed our meet-up anyway.
Cheers you two! 😀
Thank you all for your kind responses!
Hmm…not too sure. Maybe some kinda extra blue around the cockpit area? The rear looks too bold when compared with the front.
Thanks Luke, glad you liked ’em!
Cheers for all your kind comments!
It was good to meet you again too Lance.
And yes, the Barbiejet was just fine Paul 🙂
Excellent work Lance!
Cheers for a great day (and you Paul if you’re reading!).
Thanks for the comments everyone!
Fantastic photo report. Do BMI often use the ERJ145 on the LHR?
I asked the flight crew, they are only using it once or twice a day at the moment on the LHR run to free up the A320’s/A321’s for charter flights.

It was then time for a pint, especially when Paul insisted that he owed me a couple. So back on the bus me, Paul and Lance went to the airport pub and a beautiful pint of Grolsch. A pint of Guiness followed soon after, and in the meantime I picked the camera up a few times.

This is what happens when you start drinking….random photos.
Paul.

Lance. Alcohol induced camera shake?

Not to forget my ride from earlier…

After that I headed back to the terminal and straight through security, as I was already checked-in online for my flight back to Heathrow. G-RJXI turned up, the one in the old Star Alliance livery. This was to be my first time on an ERJ. I thought it was excellent! The narrow cabin made it feel very bright, I had seat 7A which was on one side of the aisle by itself. Windows were very big and clean, and the take-off was one of the most impressive I’ve felt in a long while! A great little flight down to LHR, with just about time to sit back and sip a much needed coffee. We had some really great views over London and eventually approached RWY27R at Heathrow. The airport was busy as usual, making it necessary to exit the runway extremely quicker. It was really fun being in the smallest jet around, looking up at all the huge jets around us!
Here’s 3 shots, one from the window (note our shadow on the cloud), one of the cabin, and one of the cockpit at the end of the flight.

After that I had to wait about an hour for the National Express to STN, where I then drove home and finally walked through the door at 11:30pm.
Cheers for looking/reading.
Well, after embarassing me with those terrible shots, I was considering not leaving you a comment!
But well done, you pulled out some good ‘uns considering the weather. The Swiss Star Alliance is growing on me…
