Ok, so because I miss-worded the title (it should have read “Firct Choice plane in Precautionary Diversion”) I will never actually get a serious answer?

I know that ’emergency landing’ doesn’t usually mean that, it’s just a phrase most people use. And people don’t need to start telling me that “the fire service will be called due to anything as simple as the wrong light glowing in the cockpit” because I know that. I just simply want to know the reason for this unexpected arrival (most likely a precaution), rather than have my words picked apart.

No.. disagree on that too.. 😉

so nothing that evenly remotely confirms that it was an emergency yet….

The fire service all go out to the runway with their lights on. They all split apart at different lengths down the runway, holding 50m or so away. 10 minutes later, an unexpected FCA 767 approaches. As soon as it passes the fire engines, they chase it down the length of the runway. Then follow it up the taxiway, and to the stand. They then remain there for approx 10 minutes, before finally driving back to the station.

I could imagine Ryanair being a perfect player for Manston. A few flights to their main hubs, such as Girona, Frankfurt, Dublin, Rome Ciampino, Milan (seeing as the nearest airport with FR influence is either LTN or STN). Maybe a few others to fit the holiday market…some of their French destinations like Marseille and Lyon, Spanish such as Valencia and Almeria, etc etc. With very low pax numbers it would fit very well into their 25 minute turn around…I’m not sure though whether the airport management at Kent are the kind of people to encourage Ryanair with low fee’s and whatever else they might demand.

Ryanair are currently offering LBA-DUB-LBA for £16.73…. how could I resist!

Have booked up for a day in DUB on the 19th of July, and also on the 5th of September! I’m sorry but two days in Dublin for £32 was an offer I couldnt refuse!

Anyone fancy another day in DUB? ;).

I’m afraid Tom that I’m still at school on the 19th July, and then I go back on the 5th September! Otherwise I would have joined you on one of the days.

I just booked a mini day-trip. Stansted-Oslo Torp-Stansted on the 15th June (just over 2 weeks time!). Cost a grand total of £16.83 return including taxes, crazy! I’m only there for 4 or 5 hours, but it means I get to spend 2 hours in a plane each way (30,000ft being my favourite place in the World). Torp also gets a few movements in the form of Wideroe and some Scandi charter airlines.

That’s gonna be one hell of a busy week. Shannon, Rome and Torp!

Interesting report Stuart, it is indeed a bit of a trek to the Delta Satellite at STN.

Sorry if i’m saying anything I shouldn’t be here! (Have heard about this from a couple of forum members, not sure if it’s going into the public domain!)

I’m looking to get booked up for LHR on the 18th August in the next couple of days, flying down on BA from MAN arriving 11:00, and departing back up to LBA with bmi at 20:45.

Is this an official meet or not?

I’ll probably end up at AMS on the 30th also, Jet2 from LBA for £59 should be do able for me :).

The 18th may be a bit too difficult in my schedule. I have lots of flights around August, including 3 days in Majorca, 3 days in Denmark, and then 5 days at Reading festival. I also have lots of extra part-time work hours, and will need to see my girlfriend that week when she’s home from her holiday! I’ll see how it pans out nearer the time. I definitely want an excuse to get to LHR soon, and it’s only an hours drive for me, so I’ll see what happens.

As geographically innacurate as it is, I think we’ll find the reason they’ve done it is to fit all the place names on it, e.g. Newcastle and Manchester would be on top of each other.

    Solution? Get a flash map!!!

    :D:D:D

That’s not much of an excuse then for Bilbao, Madrid and Seville! None of them are near each other, and if put in their proper places they’d be just as far apart.

Cheers for the sticky Lance, very useful!

Ok Tom, will be good to have you there. Especially with a car 🙂

If i am at work that day, I will be looking to get to MAN very early that day, about 7am, and spend a few hours at the Southside before everyone arrives! Will then have to leave about 14:30.

Hope loads of people can make it :).

So that makes you pretty much confirmed then Tom, atleast from 7am til 1430? And does that also mean you’d be able to meet me from my flight?

Ok, I have to go out soon and so have booked myself up. So that’s it, I am confirmed and shall be attending.

If it turns out that no-one with a car does get there on the day (unlikely, I know) then is is easy for me to get on a bus South Side, taking into account my flight times?

Judging by this respone, would you now say that it’s safe for me to book my flights?

Dan – how are you getting down to EGKK? That is my main issue being in Colchester…. If I can suss that out, then I will try and come with ya…

I’m on the National Express from Stansted. I get free travel because I have an Arriva staff pass. But that’s what I had to sort out before I could confirm, cos I couldn’t afford to pay for the coach if I had to.

Ok, it seems like some good interest. But no-one has definitely confirmed that they’re coming yet. Where are you…?

Also, does Bmi Regional still get inflight service from MAN-LHR?

Good to hear from you three. Is anyone else going to defnitely confirm or book flights to meet here? A soon as someone is actually confirmed I will be ready to book the flights. I just don’t want an unfortunate set of coincidences to happen and that all the people who say that they’ll ‘confirm nearer the time’ end up not coming and leaving me stuck.

I was browsing random photos on A.net and spotted this

    http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0971491/L/

I just struck me as a fabulous photo. Perfect clarity, vibrant colours, good framing and excellent timing. Just simply brilliant.

I’ll tell Mike that you liked it 😉 He is a good mate that I met from photographing at STN, and who I went to ACE with in December.

I think he sent me the original a long time ago when he took the shot, I’m not sure if I’ve stll got it on here to see if Skymonster is correct.
