Now for the inbound shots…or what’s left of them. All the HNL photos, and 757 photos (HNL-LAX) are on the other memory card. It all went wrong when I got to LAX, at which point I switched over to the old memory card and salvaged some space. Seeing as I didn’t have a window on the 777 this morning, it means the only photos I have are on the LAX-ORD leg. Sorry to let you down..

    1) A quick glimpse of the Astrojet aircraft as she taxies out.

    2) A CO764 taxies past.

    3) Starting our take off roll at LAX, racing a landing UA 757.

    4) Take off over the beaches of LA

    5) Over the rocky mountains

    6) The Grand Canyon

    7) Red rock…and snow capped mountains.

    8) Seems like this small town has it’s own runway.

    9) Short finals for ORD

    10) Crossing another runway shortly after touch down, as an AA F100 takes off past slightly off centre.

Sorry about the delays, having trouble uploading today. Here’s with the rest from the seaplane trip…these ones over HNL airport were taken whilst downwind for the water runway.

    1) Over the terminals. On the left hand edge of the picture, in he middle, you can see a sort of triangular arrangment. The two parts linking with the main pier are all windowless, and there are no other fences around. Thus you can look right over the aprons with no obstructions. If I had this other memory card working, I’d show you some examples of the pictures that can be taken there 🙁

    2) Most of the airport is visible in this shot. The water runway is that strip of water just behind the hangars, towards the rear of the shot.

3 and 4) There’s a very large military presence here.

    5) Base leg for the water runway.

And that’s it for the sea plane trip, although I do have lots of other similar shots.

Now for some of the interesting, in-flight ones. I have about 60 or so, so these are just a select few.

    1) Taking off
    2) Lifting up over the harbour area.
    3) A view looking down the ‘reef’ runway at HNL. Flying over Honolulu city.
    4) My hotel is down there on that beach front.
    5) Diamond Head volcano. I climbed to the summit of this a few days ago, and the view is amazing.
    6) One of Hawaii’s many extinct volcanoes.
    7) Lava flows that have cooled at the sea
    8) Underneath the wing on the float plane was this mirror, to assist when taxiing to water platforms.
    9) Keheone Naval air strip. This one was attacked badly by the Japanese, on the same day they did Pearl Harbour.
    10) Yes we are as close to the cliff as it appears. Here we are flying through a very tight valley at 2000ft.

I think the highlight of the holiday had to be the sea plane ride over the island. Especially when it was like a private charter….me and my dad the only passengers on board. The aircraft was a Cessna 206 Stationair, which had 6 seats. I got to be the co-pilot 😀
The water strip we used is an official one, and was once used by the first PanAm clippers arriving in Honolulu. It’s just a long lagoon, at the back of HNL airport. At first we have a shot of the plane, and the cockpit.

Once off the plane at LAX, we had to go straight to the next gate along, where people were just beginning to board the flight for HNL. The whole flight was in darkness so no pics I’m afraid. Aircraft was N377AN, a 767-300, and service was the same as the previous flight. Next up, are photos from my seaplane trip…

JFK was a complete mess. It was dirty, had a poor layout, and in general was not very nice at all. After a lot of messing around with the security, we eventually got to our next gate, for our flight to LAX. Aircraft was N339AA, a 767-200.

Once at the holding point for the runway, I soon started to wonder what was going on, when we had been sat there for 15 minutes…then 30…then 45…then eventually after 50 minutes we got going. When I got into the cockpit and spoke to the pilots about it at the end of the flight, he told me how we were waiting for inbound traffic, and 3 aircraft had had to go-around due to wind shear. On this flight, only beverages were complimentary. Still, the cabin crew were all very nice, and the leg room was nice just to lay back and sleep for a couple of hours.

We arrived in LAX shortly before sunset, and promptly taxied to our gate.

    1) A fine detailed look out at the wing.
    2) A peek at the Rock Mountains
    3) On the ILS for LAX
    4) A few seconds from touch down, looking out at the FedEx ramp.
    5) AA domination at LAX
    6) The sun setting on our aircraft.
    7) The cockpit.

    Ok, first flight LHR-JFK. Onboard 777-200ER, N752AN.

Departed T3 on time. T3 was very satisfactory, with a good range of shops to browse around. Unfortunately, there was nowhere to watch the aircraft, until we had to board. We left on RWY27R, the same runway I’ve ended up on for every flight I’ve ever had out of LHR. Quick climb to 33000ft, and then the cabin crew commenced service quickly. The meal was a very nice one, with a grilled chicken fillet on top of some tomato pasta, and some vegetables in a creamy/cheese sauce. Dessert was cheesecake, my favourite. Throughout the flight the (complimentary) beverages constantly came around, and we were free to wander to the galley and ask for anything we wanted too. I spent the last 2 hours of the flight chatting with a few of the cabin crew at the rear of the cabin. Very friendly bunch, and my first impressions of AA were already looking good.

Arrived at JFK ahead of schedule, in thick fog/rain and low clouds. This rendered photography useless, so no shots from there I’m afraid.

I’m disappointed with my photos so far (probably because I’m also upset about the others. Although I haven’t given up hope yet), but here goes with a few of them..

    1) G-YMMG waiting behind us in the take off queue at LHR.
    2) A view of T5 on departure
    3) Over Newfoundland, all the ice sheets are visible.
4 and 5) Shots from the cabin, showing how roomy the 777 feels with it’s specially designed interior.
    6) Great leg room (I’m around 5’10”)

    Welcome back Dan 😀
Real sorry to hear about the camera memory card, to say the least that is odd and good to see AA sorted your flight problems out.

Thanks, i hope to find a way around it.

And yep, as I say AA were fantastic. Quite easily the best airline I’ve flown with, almost everything about them was perfect. I’ll go into more detail when I get the rest of the photos soon..
