I had the 70-300 IS USM and its a great lens, lightweight and nearly but if you don’t need 300mm then consider the 70-200 F4. However I found 300mm a little short using the 70-300 IS USM at Fariford this year so I invested in the 100-400 IS L. If you need to see some shots using the 70-300 check my shots on a.net in the sig.

I did this trip from MAN in Nov last year but I only made it as far as my business class seat on Row 4 😀 So I don’t know what the service etc is like in the back.

Was the first week operating the flight when I went so the staff hadn’t got a clue, for some it was their first trip.

I have to say when I was at MAN last week the Trident was looks superbly clean and tidy. Great to see.
The steps seem to let it down some what being a bit manky.

Thanks for the info, do you happen to know if you can still park your car there?
I parked there 3 or 4 years ago, but the last time I went it was closed and blocked off!

I was at the Esso last week just after it opened, us local guys park our cars in the local pub and walk a few yards down the road. There are car parking places in the garage for customers. We saw the police move on cars and talk to the tog’s in the cars saying to move off the private property. We always stand just off the forecourt on public land and they have no probs. Just hope the new opening of the garage doesn’t lend itself to loads of spotters coming down and parking there and spoiling it for the regulars as once the police get going they’ll be no stopping them!

I see you got a shot of my fav lamp post! I have so many good shots of it right in the centre of my pics 😉
Great to have the garage open for drink etc, just a shame you are not pushed down the road a bit so the trees and lamps get in the way for some heavy stuff and all A340’s!

Here is one workflow thats well worth flowing, uses Photoshop but I’m sure the same tools exist in other programs.

    http://www.jid.me.uk/workflow/

I use a very similar workflow however I shoot in RAW. I use Rawshooter to process the colours and brightness levels / curves then it opens up in CS2 where I carry out the crop, levelling, dust, sharpening. I also use a noise reduction program called Noise Ninja, works great for high ISO images, mainly use this for sports tho, not much on aviation shots.
Each photo takes 5-10mins to process.

If anyone need any help on editing or talking through the process email me and I can do it via MSN or skype. I’m no expert but I’ve got some experience.

Remember editing cannot “fix” a poor shot, try and get it right in the camera first.

I tend to agree with some of the original points. However I think this forum is a good place
for everyone to show their pics no matter what the quality. I’m sure people recognise that their photos
maybe not be the best quality but why make this forum a no-go area.
I enjoy this forum, its friendly and welcoming and its a quick way of seeing new shots that you don’t tend to see in many places.
Having CC maybe good but I fear it might turn this forum into something not aimed to be. If your not expecting to get CC on your photos you might have take offence.
Personally I don’t reply to threads when I think the photos are poor as I don’t want to join in with the “good shots”, “brilliant” when really they are blurred, dark, its just seems false to me.

Looking at the photos posted here, the majority are very good. Not even can afford to own a DSLR or even the editing software required to make “the standard” (whatever that is).

I’m happy to offer help on taking and editing photos to anyone who requires it. Just PM / email me.

Everyone has their own agenda for taking aviation photos, some are spotters with a camera, some are photographers who like planes..there maybe a difference there in the way people look at the photos.

I started out as a spotter but now I just goto the airport to photograph the aircraft and no longer “spot the numbers”

3 key points to remember to make your photos better 😉

    1) Shoot with the sun at your back
    2) Shoot with the sun at your back
    3) Stay at home / Pub when its cold and grey 😉

    Hope this is constructive!

I don’t mind the cops doing their job in that way, the ones down at LHR were just as friendly.

Southside sides all taken with 30D + 100-400.
    Concorde Cockpit – 30D + 18-55 Lens kit + 580ex flash
Trident Side – 30D + Sigma 24-70 (now for sale)
    Trident Nose – 30D + 70-200 IS L

used all my kit on that day! even used the 350D until the batts ran out!

Coppers were friendly enough, no problems, just asked if the cars near the farm were ours and took names and DoB. There were about 6 photographers down there and they spoke to each one for 5-10 mins. Nowt to worry about. Well I’m back down in London now so waiting for the next visit to LHR or maybe I should chance LGW?
