I was thinkin Snyder Buzzard or Curtiss-Wright Junior first, but I think it is a tad earlier than that.
What sort of silver/yellow aircraft: fabric or alu?
For fabric/wood my favourite is acetone/dope mixed with aluminium powder. Works very well, and easy to remove for repairs. Also very good for UV-protection.
Strange cowlings on the Dc-3. Different engines?
Same engines. Different cowlings (reduction of the front opening, smoother housing for the oil coolers, etc.). It’s what’s left of the Transair modification that was done to several Daks post-war to improve on aerodynamics, the original mod also included full main wheel doors, which were later removed on this particular aircraft.
Also another thought is that the Dutch had some Fokker T.VIII-W floatplanes which made it to the UK and were supposedly used on clandestine missions to Norway.
That is new information to me, if true. However, the T.VIII-W’s were used on several mission to the occupied The Netherlands. Including a famous (failed) pick up of an agent from a lake, where the aircraft got badly shot up but made it home.
Good 360 vision though! 🙂
THe vision from this modified cockpit is actually a lot worse than from the original full-bubble canopy (I speak from experience).
It is indeed an N.V. Vliegtuigbouw Sagitta 013, with a Schleicher K.8b canopy. It got modified when the canopy got smashed in a moments of carelessness, and replacements were not available. Putting a K.8 canopy on has not improved the looks of this sleek airplane…
That’s the LNE-1 after they overdid the rockets!
Close, but no. 😉
Yep. there are one or two more in the country.
Actually more:
– Motor Tutor owned by a DUtch man based at Asperden (Germany) just across the border
– Motor Tutor stored in excellent condition at Hilversum
– Tandem Tutor flying at Hilversum
– Tandem Tutor under restoration by a gentleman in the south (used to fly until two years ago)
– Motor Tutor flying at Midden Zeeland and one in storage
– Two Tandem Tutors stored at Midden Zeeland
– A Tandem Tutor owned by a DUtch gentleman based just across the border at Emmerich (Germany)
Next:
Based at Deelen, The Netherlands.
Pratt-Read LNE-1 used as a test bed for JATO bottles. Is this Aerojet-General’s NX63151?
I think we never left Melbourne 😀
And yes, it is the ‘Great Hulk of Zephyrus’ (Beaufort Zephyrus, VH-GHZ).
First clue: it’s a two-seater that started life as a single-seater.
Yep, Wirraway forward fuselage frame and an Aussie Hawker Demon. On the extreme left of the photo is the forward portion of the Wirraway rear fuselage, upside down. The gentleman on the right with the beard is Jack Macdonald, former owner of CAC Mustang VH-FCB, which saw its demise at Duxford last year as the former G-HAEC.
I’m surprised you haven’t identified the truck chassis in the foreground yet 😀
Well, lucky guess. Here’s another bare aircraft…
