Can i ask what is the status of the Mig-31BM upgrade program ? I’ve read that so far two Mig-31BM were delivered in 2008 , presumably for trials…what are the plans for the future, how many do they plan to upgrade?
Also are there any photos so far of Mig-31BM carrying R-37s?
Thank you for your help.:)
Following is a link to a webpage that contains some info. about this missile.

Thank you , i apreciate your help , tho as you can imagine i’ve looked throught every corner of the web ( to say so …maby i did missed something …) and aparently those fuzzy BW pics like on aeroweb are all thats avaliable on this subject…
Maby our russian friends would know more about this missile?
Don”t miss those stunning vid footages of Syrian AF back in the good old days !!!!:eek::eek:
Godamn , you dont see THAT every day!!! Thanks for the links , it was a very interesting watch. Most interesting part is that aparently they have modified their MiG-17Fs a la egyptian style , ie with two bomb launchers under the fuselage , but no wing rocket launchers.
Hehe , they must have been really proud of their MiG-23MS/BN , as they get most of the attention!
Any idea when was this filmed , end of the seventies maby ?
Sorry Quadro , i dont think your pic (presumably) is visible to the members…i cant see it …
Just found this on paralay.com ( look at the bottom of page), lovely model, gorgeous bird ! Is that an official model or a modeler built it?

Well , funny thing is if you type R-77 on google that is on of the images you get …lol
I’m not sure, i’m suposed to have a good eye for these things , MABY the IR missile on the outboard pylons is a Magic imitator, but the inside one is even less certain…certainly looks bigger and looks like a radar guided one …COULD be Derby …but hard to see from this angle…
Another Sea-Harrier image. Still can’t identify the missile though. 🙁
Its from the youtube video of president’s visit. Check time-index 5:01 – 5:08
Link.Regards,
Ashish.PS: This is foolish. But can it be the R77 ??
Err … about the pic that is suposed to be an R-77 whit the fins on the ground…if i’m correct the plane in that pic is a Tornado ADV, and the missile its a Skyflash…
Lovely pics thanks, pretty little bird the pak F-7PG is … 🙂
As far as i see it , my personal opinion is that at the time , they could have had , because they modernized 110 Mig-21s at a price of $345 mil of which as it turned out later only the Lancer-C have a real value( Lancer-A has no radar, just a rangefinder), as from what i have read they have only 48 Lancers in use atm , the rest going – guess where – to the elements!!!
Its all speculation and what if, and we’re haveing the benefit of retrospective, but if say they would have modernized only 50 or 60 Mig-21s to full Lancer-C spec( plus the two seaters, offcourse), AND invest in the Mig-29 aswell, like our neighbours did( by freeing up enough money from the Lancer upgrade costs) , giving them a good SLEP and for instance the CNI package from the Sniper , nothing fancy ( again , thats about what Poland and Slovakia did ), i think RoAF would have been in a better position today …
Just my 2 eurocents.
Unfortunately the romanian Mig-29s don’t even count , because unlike Hungary , Poland , Bulgaria and Slovakia who saw them for what they were( useful , high performance birds worth keeping)who invested in their upgrade and life extension , the good old chaps in Bucharest decided to abandon them to the elements in 2003 ,and they sat there since …not much they can do with them now i guess…:( ( not that they will ever want to …)
If true, great :(…they will get those “free” F-16s that otherwise will go for scrap! How old are they, 25 years ??? and how much are they gonna pay to “revitalize” them??? They would be almost as old as the Lancers they are suposed to replace!
I am romanian myself and i hope they wont do this mistake…Gripen or even second hand Typhoons would do a good job, afterall the Typhoon is rumored to be the second best fully operational fighter in the world atm. ( alongside Rafale , Su-30, JAS-39C etc). Hell, even if they wanna get F-16s and nothing else , at least get them new , like Poland !
But who can fight politics …
Yeah , there doesn’t seem to be anything secret about 902’s intakes , plenty of pics around of them exposed…

BTW damn i hate this wait for the T-50’s first flight and ( hopefully!!!)images !:D
Mind you tho , the MIG 1.44 stood outside view of curious eyes for almost five years AFTER it was completed and ready to fly…lets hope Ivan won’t do that again…:p
Getting back to the subject anyone know what the missiles are????
They kinda look like AT-3 Sagger AT missiles with nose extensions???
Thanks for getting this topic back on track Slipperysam.
I did spent quite a while staring and various soviet AT missies , and rather than the Sagger , imo it looks closer to an AT-1 or AT-2 whit a much bigger warhead , cut down wings ,canards and some sort of radio command or beam guidance system( at least thats what the fairing at the wingtips suggests) .
It may be well that it doesnt have anything to do with the AT-1/2, i remember reading about tests whit K-5 missiles in air to ground mode, but maby they confused them and it was actually this missile, which may well be a derivative of the K-5 familly…just pure speculation for now tho.
Anytime, mate. I just hope that you will get an answer before we solve all the middle east problems 🙂
Right, that cheers me up !:D
Easiest way I can think off, is pressing , paste your whole screen in MSpaint and cutting the rest of your desktop out of the picture. Then save it as a new file.
Thank you for your help Erlindur, i forgot i have to paste it in Paint after pressing Print Screen!
Here is it …
