The link says “the cost of canopy replacement will run $182,205”.
I’d rather take the Modena 😉

The purpose of an air superiority fighter is to gain air superiority (surprise, surprise). Whether this objective is achieved by blasting enemy aircraft out of the sky or by persuading the enemy not to fly, or even better, not to have an airforce doesnt matter.

If you fly rusty F-16s in 2020, the enemy might think twice about challenging your fighters…

However, i like the idea “Eagles forever”. 😎

The F-18 would not carry more than maybe 8 AAMs in a combat loadout.
These 12 missiles create huge drag thanks to the bathtub pylons plus twin rail launcher.
The Hornet also needs its fuel tanks anyway.

I think that F-16 photo with the JSOW’s on twin ejector racks is a photoshop job. I’ve never been made aware that twin racks for JSOW’s exist…..if they do does anyone else have photos?

    I think its real.

a Yak 130 would suit a third world country, as a simple to operate fighter but what is the cost of operating them and there up keep?

any idea on the cost of a Yak 130?

My guess is: not more than your F-5 / MiG-21 / Mirage 3 costs to operate.
But basically i have no idea. 😀

You mean ground clearance as in it won’t get off the ground? Otherwise I don’t know what you’re talking about because the bombs don’t seem to be touching the ground to me.

They maybe dont touch the ground when standing still, but its too close to feel safe. At least for me. 😉

In the advanced trainer segment, theres also the Yak-130 and its Italian counterpart M-346. I think these planes offer capabilites good enough for so called 3rd world countries. The weapon load of 3000kg is more than an F-5 or a MiG-21 can carry.

A Tiger loaded with 18 bombs, interesting. There might be some issues with ground clearance though. 😀

The EF was designed as an air superiority fighter for the European theatre. As such its range is sufficient when loaded with AAMs.
Now if you want to use the Eurofighter as a Bomber, your range will suffer. The EF is simply not designed for A/G.

Are those 2,000-lb. or 1,000-lb. weapons?

    What a load!

Those must be 1000lbs bombs because the outer pylons are rated for about 500kg only (intended for 2 BVR missiles).

It looks impressive i must admit, but the EF flying a few weeks back with 3 fuel tanks and 4 bombs was heavier. 😉

About the F-15, there indeed is a sonic boom audible in the video:

    http://www.patricksaviation.com/aviation_videos/11/Where_Eagles_Fly

As the sound is obviously heavily edited there is of course no telling if it’s genuine though.

Thanks for posting the link, i would have posted it myself if i remembered where i got the video from.
