Hi darnsarf,
Jon H is, at this very moment, on his hols enjoying the high-life in Mexico.
I will be sending him an e-mail tonight so will mention your offer. He is back next Monday (7th) so he will no-doubt contact you then.
Anon.
Thanks Anon, I’ve had a couple of other expressions of interest but Jon is next in line so he has first (second?) refusal.
Well that was odd, despite 2 or 3 promises to pay for the postage nothing ever arrived, the PMs dried up after a while and now the parcel is back with me (returned to sender) after lying uncollected at Preston sorting office
So Jon H, if you would like the riveter it’s yours, just send me a tenner for postage. PM sent. Like I told TwinPioneer the box and accessories are in poor condition, but the riveter itself being plated is in good nick and appears (I’m no expert mind) to be in working order.
They bear a resemblance to 4-spoke Spitfire wheels, e.g. –

Heinkel & doodlebug?

Try reading the whole thread Darnsarf, particularly Post 22!:p
Ah. Ahem.
Perhaps that’s where I ‘heard’ it..
Joking apart I enjoyed the programme, most of the guests have had really interesting ancestors / family histories but then I guess if they hadn’t then they wouldn’t be featured.
I heard somewhere that Michael Parkinson was being looked at as a candidate for this series but was dropped because his ancestors weren’t interesting enough..
Ms Humble..?
I would.
Stranraer, or given that it’s in a Scottish Loch, more likely a Mosquito..
My recollections of Brawdy are slightly different and mainly revolve around the long gorgeous summer of ’76 and the accommodating arms of a local lass after a NAAFI disco (well I was 18 and it was my first time)..
I’d been seconded there to help carry out a FOD survey, which involved several of us sitting beside the taxiways at strategic intervals looking out for Hunters taxying too close together and noting down their details when they did. The hardship was obviously considerable.. and how I wish now I’d taken a camera.. 😡
A quick glimse on Top Gear of one of the above in a scrapyard/storage area in the U.S. Anyone know which she is ? She had ‘Lucky Lady’ nose art.
Back to the original question and courtesy of the BBC iPlayer..
I’m guessing Lodestar

Biggles of the Camel Squadron, various Observers aircraft books and (thanks for reminding me) Airfix catalogues, not original I know but I can still smell the paper..
I picked up a mint first edition copy of ‘Battle of Britain the Movie’ for £26 on eBay back in April so don’t give up hope, the companion picture book went to someone else for £47. The same seller also had a hardback first edition of Mosley’s ‘The Battle of Britain, the Making of a film’ which made £102.. 😮 My secondhand Pan paperback copy of that cost about £3 from Abebooks 😀
