The closest Mig-23UB has the roundel used from 1945 to 1993, the one in the back has the present day roundel.
I had no idea they were different! Very interesting.
The Bell TH-57C Sea Ranger helicopter at right has been sprayed in white with an early standard naval insignia from 1914. Can someone find pictures of the actual 1914/1915 aircraft of the USN?
See image of US Navy Curtiss Model F with anchor insignia on rudder.
I don’t agree. This roundel was the next step from the same one with the red dot in the middle and that too was placed on both wings on top and under.
Another one is here:It was only when the bars were included the upper right and the lower left were lost. 😉 But I know that every rule has it’s exceptions. :very_drunk: And the Navy could have other regulations then the Air Force and…..
edit;
Finaly found a nice color pic of it
It looks as some had the yellow circle on the fuselage roundel and others on the wing roundel (adding more confusing to it)
Is this the explanation:
It is confusing, but that’s what makes it interesting! There was mixture of left-side only and both sides with the non-bar roundels.
Afghan Mig-17 in color. January 1960. Extremly rare… 🙂
Quite astounding. Afghanistan has had quite an amazing assortment of insignia over the years. Looks like these are wearing the old green-red-black roundel, with matching rudder stripes.
It is not lifting it. Simply hovering in front of it.
Yeah, I know. Sorry- a very poor attempt at far too subtle humor on my part.
and another USA roundel,
this one is from 1942 with an yellow outlined star. Used in North Africa
Unusual too in that it has the roundel on both lower wing surfaces.
Angola
The picture of the Ecureuil/Fennec lifting the Bandeirante is rather unusual. I don’t think that Angola uses the Bandeirante. If not- whose is it?
Manchurian AF :
Wow- these are rare!
Lo siento, no such pic in my database.. When did you post it?
This one?

See what I have attached.
oil, its the richest country per capita in africa
Yes, and dirt poor. Despite a per capita GDP of more than US$30,000, Equatorial Guinea ranks 121st out of 177 countries on the United Nations Human Development Index. I guess there’s 1% in that country living in total luxury. Obiang clearly has his priorities straight.
Equatorial Guinea
I find it absolutely astonishing that this small country has so much military hardware. What threat in their region justifies it?
Talking about Tanzania. What about this roundel
Yeah, that’s a weird one. I also have a picture of a K-8, as well as three of some F-7s, wearing that same marking.
Burundi
Kenya
Yemen
I love the “REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT” warning on the rotor housing of the Kenyan MD-500. I guess much stupider things have happened, though!
thank you gkozak. You’re really helpfull
Thank you, sir- my great pleasure!
