    Thanks!

As part of the SADC Forces at Lohatlha was this Bell UH-1 “Huey” from Zambia.

    Aum Shinrikyo Mi-17

I don’t know if this exactly qualifies as a small air force, but it’s pretty strange, nonetheless. The Aum Shinrikyo cult (the nuts that released Sarin in the Tokyo subway system in 1995) obtained an Mi-17. I believe the characters on the tail boom include the “aum” symbol, but I am not certain.

A Couple More Requests- Bhutan and Equatorial Guinea

I have read rumors regarding Mi-8s/17s and Do-228s operated by Bhutan, marked with the circular roundel below. Can anybody confirm this? Also, I have read about two MiG-17Fs operated by Equatorial Guinea in the late-’70s/early-80’s. One of my sources informed me that he had seen a profile of one in natural metal finish, with the national flag on the fin and a red bort number on the nose. Is there any truth to this?

    Liberian Mi-2

Does anybody know the code above the flag on the fuselage of this Liberian Mi-2? Images of Liberian aircraft and helicopters are quite rare. Does anybody have any additional images? I have a Cessna 206, but little else. Thanks.

    Thanks For The Clarification

That heli never flew with that paintjob, it was applied after it went to the museum.
It’s a complete fantasy, no other aircraft carried it either.

Thanks. I’ve seen other Romanian aircraft with pretty unusual camo schemes, though, so this one didn’t seem so strange. Look at the picture of the IAR-99 I’ve attached, for example.

    Swazi Alouette III

Does anybody know anything about this Swazi Alouette III? Does it carry any national insignia or codes besides that on the nose? The nose code is 002; there appears to be some sort of code or other lettering on the tail boom.

If that thing doesn’t look like some kind of carnivorous insect, I don’t know what does…

I’ve never seen horizontally segmented roundels on any Syrian aircraft or helicopters before. Strange.

    North Korean MiG-23- Very Nice!

It’s horrendoulsly amazing to see ageing Yak-11s flying about in flocks too, all of which were believed flown from Kang-dong AFB, where it houses a local flying club and air force squadrons operating CJ-6 and AN-2 in small numbers.

It’s hard to tell, but activities of the entire fleet of N.korean AF could have been stopped altogether due to increasing levels of economic turmoil starting in early 90.

I doubt if they were supplied with some extra-spare parts from either CHiCOM or russia to be able to flawlessly conduct flight trainings on a regular basis.

Still the PRC continues furnishing them with a large stockpile of oils, household goods, however, the situation in S.korea has been reversed when growing relationship with N.korea has been completely dropped recently,

Therefore, thousands of southerners ceased unwillingly organizing a week-long tour in the Mountains of Keum-Kang.

To be realistic, They were overly instrumental in reviving N.korea’s listing economy and surging up the N.korean at combat readiness greatly, enabling them to renew stopped flying exercises on a large scale (Think of how their brand-new MiG-23 did a dumb thing like dog-paddling to get near the JSDAF recce aircraft, flanking the JSDAF’s aerial reconnaisance activities over the sea of Japan recently), but just keep sitting mum, bringing up no word on this issue.:D

    Source-http://www.emule.org.cn

And yet another surprise from you- a North Korean MiG-23! Where do you find these things? Keep ’em coming!

    Unknown Noratlas

I found a picture of a Noratlas on African Aviation Slide Service, http://www.afavia-fotos.co.za/milindex.asp. The caption indicated that it was Angolan, but I can’t identify the badge under the front two circular windows. From the camouflage, it certainly looks like it could be an ex-Portuguese aircraft used by Angola. Can anybody confirm the identity of this aircraft and the badge? Thanks.
