New Zealand Fern Roundel
Anybody have any images or profiles of New Zealand aircraft (including helicopters) with the “fern” roundel? I believe it was used during the ’60s. I have a decal sheet including this marking, and have had trouble finding a subject of which to build a model. Thanks!
It means “Abu Dhabi Air Force”.
And now Im waiting for our Arab friends here to correct me:D

Excellent- just what I needed! Thanks so much- I owe you one.
I Wish I Had One
Gimme a hi-res pic and I ll translate it;)
I wish I had a high-res picture, but this is the best I’ve got. Any way you could give it your best shot? Thanks!
Luxembourg Piper Cubs
I am very curious about the attached image of a Piper Cub from Luxembourg. Does anybody have details about markings and colors? Were the roundels repeated on the upper and lower wings? Was the serial repeated on the wings?
Abu Dhabi Air Force Markings
I have a profile of a Hawker Hunter from Abu Dhabi, which I have attached. Does anybody have a clear image of the Arabic script to the right of the fuselage roundel? Is it a literal translation of the “Army Air” to the left of the insignia? I know that the serial number is translated into Arabic to the right of the roundel. Thanks for any help.
It Looks Georgian
Well, it certainly looks Georgian, but I have never seen that variation of the roundel. The number of points on the star is right, but the standard Georgian insignia has the star in a white circle that is surrounded by a black ring.
South Arabian Jet Provost, Malaysian Provost
A couple more interesting ones I recently found.
Viet Cong A-37s
I have attached a profile of a Viet Cong A-37 from the Wings Palette web site.
A REALLY Rare One
Never thought I’d find one of these- a Liberian Cessna 208 Caravan. Now all I have to do is find a 1/72 model kit of the thing…
Another Mystery About This Image
Another mystery about this intriguing image- if the Mi-17 is from Tajikistan, or indeed any other Islamic country, why the red cross? I understand that a red crescent is used instead of a red cross, because the symbol of the cross is so objectionable to Islam. If the operator is, in fact, Tajikistan, it will be the first image I have seen of a combat aircraft from that country. I thought their national marking was a green star, though.
Sure You CAN, but…
I can type whatever way I like.
I’m not questioning that, I’m questioning why you would want to type it at all. I thought these forums were supposed to be free of political claptrap and other such nauseating bilge.
Come On!
Yes, aircrafts of the former Saigon puppet regime is everywhere in VietNam. They don’t need to be taken from the grounds of the Independence Palace, I’m sure the VPAF still have more in a warehouse somewhere, but I guess VietNam have the tendency to surprise oursiders 😀
Btw, you spent some time in VietNam? Any photos to share?
You’re still fighting that war? “Aircraft of the former South Vietnamese air force” would have sounded perfectly fine; “former Saigon puppet regime” sounds like they’re still dragging you to political indoctrination/brainwashing classes every day. The ’70s are over, man…
Incredible- Thanks!
I’ve seen a similar roundel(green-white-big blue center) some years a go, on Mi-24s that supposedly were From Sierra Leone.
I have been looking for images of combat aircraft from Equatorial Guinea for a long time- this is great! I have come across references to a couple of MiG-17s in a number of independent sources, and I would love to see some images of those. The roundels are definitely new; all previous military/governmental aircraft I have seen wear the flag. I imagine we will see additional images of aircraft from this country as Obiang spends his oil money…
Japanese Surrender Markings
http://www.ww2incolor.com/gallery/japan?page=4
Mitsubishi G4M2 “Betty” bomber.
Nakajima G8N “Renzan” bomber. USAAF.
The Betty, by the way, is in surrender markings mandated by the Allies at the end of hostilities in the Pacific. All Japanese aircraft were to be painted overall white, with green crosses in the former locations of the hinomarus.
Mongolian Sturmovik
I noticed that one, too. The Wings Palette site is incredible, isn’t it? There’s also a Mongolian Polikarpov I-16.
