Had a look on goggle and it shows some helicopters with an XP serial, therefore it may from a helicopter and the listing has been removed until I can confirm one way or the other its identity.
Hi Graham,
Firstly a great site you have, Secondly, my interest was the number of mod’s on the plate, no implied ‘false description’ intended.
‘XP864’ seems to be in a batch of u nused serials so not that, although interestingly a westland batch.
Slightly O/T but when doing MOD(N) stuff we were using brass plates right up until the late 80’s,
cheers
Jerry
Hi Jerry
Modifications
Well, the plate looks interesting, and authentic looking to me, even if it wasn’t, it would be worth the £80 for the workmanship in someone fabricating it alone… 😉
Where would the Mods be listed BTW?
I know that there are quite a few amendments in the copy of the Whirlwind schedule of spare parts that I have, but can’t remember off hand if their listed with Mod Numbers… I’ll have a butchers when I’m home for you.
Have you got the album I sent you?
Hi
Thanks for the thoughts, I wonder if ‘ P328646 ‘ on the plate was a westland construction number, no idea where a mod list would be if it still exists, might be something in the spares schedule.
yes got the album thanks, been having a few e mail prob’s recently:confused: so you may not have had my reply, another one sent.
cheers
Jerry

Hi Stuart,
Just a thought, as you are doing the cockpit, is it post july ’42 ?
If so I presume you have a copy the NA/PRO photo of the mod to the standard six instrument panel, for the night time use of whirlwind’s, if not let me know.
Also I have a great shot, front view, of the rear headrest etc, if you need it.
cheers
Jerry
Hi Jerry
I should lighten up a bit, but times getting tight and there are somethings that just won’t be sorted, this ruddy gauge is one of them, but I won’t be beaten… 😉
I’ve got the Peregrine AP do you want a scan?
Stuart…
Hi Stuart,
Feeling guilty, I just went thro’ all my whirlwind pic’s and realised I have very little in the way of cockpit shots, so sorry i can’t help.
Would love a scan of the peregrine manual if you have time, I have been searching for a while now, bit of a project, that may or may not materialise.
Cheers
Jerry

Tee Hee:D:rolleyes:
Sorry for the humour stuart, found the link a while back in a search for the real R-R manual …
Good luck with the project
cheers
Jerry
OK.
With all due respect this has been an entirely academic argument about a non-event.
Hi
Personally I am not so sure,
Knowing the site and viewing the current aerial multimap ‘ possible development’, is not all that far away. ( in years )
The site is roughly bordered on two & a half sides, by previous development.
Cheers
Jerry
Just a thought, how do the families involved feel about this? I’m not convinced that it is always best to re-open old wounds, especially when those involved will be quite elderly.
Best wishes

Hi
true if the aircrew were say in their 20’s, it would make any spouse nearly 90, ( probably re married ), their parents would be long gone.
always the possibility of children or niece / nephews, who I find so far, the ones who I have had dealings with, are keen to find out about their missing relative and the circumstances.
my opinion, put those who gave their lives where they should be,
not left in a piece of ground that one day will be forgotten about.
cheers
Jerry
Hi Jerry
have sent you a PM
Hi
pm received.
jerry
Me-109E…you must be talking about a Stirling then.
I do know a certain amount about that site and the crew.
Hi
So finally it all gets sorted out then, assuming we are thinking of the same site, the parts should help the project greatly, I located the site by accident in the late 70’s, and remember what was on the surface,( and what was supposedly not removed by the MU, [tho’ the diary listed the serial number as being in the yard])
( if it is same a/c the two missing members surnames start with a M),
But I understood the site owners were aware of the aircraft & location, or have things changed ?
If I am talking totally O/T please ignore me…..
cheers
Jerry
Hi
British National Pole ? 😀
cheers
Jerry
Hi
Probably not a bomber ,
Höhler’s claims for ’41 were only spitfires, no bombers claimed.
08 Nov ’41 was two spitifres in one day,
maybe this was the occasion ?
options :-
501 Sq lost P/O W.J. Greenaway as a pow
316 Sq S/Ldr. W. Wilczewski as a pow
302 Sq P/O Z. Gutowski as a pow
315Sq S/Ldr. W. Szczeszniewski as a pow
there was a 452sq, Sgt. B.P. Dunstan, ‘ASR’ but not mentioned as pow.
all others losses were KIA, or returned OK.
Maybe the photo was 1942 ?
info from the excellent tony woods lists.
Cheers
Jerry
Hi
Being inquisitive..
What is the a/c with the turret ? ( behind the beech ), which has luftwaffe markings.
Looks a bit like a blenheim but not quite ?
Any ideas ?
