……I’ll see you on the other forum…..
Hi
Out of interest, other forum.
Any chance of a link, not in anyway stating I am leaving this one, but I tend to browse a few forums, or is the term ‘lurking’.
cheers
Jerry
Hi
I could be totally wrong but 166 & 167 to me look to show the hull of an aluminium boat, the two ‘rectangularish’ objects could be sacrifical anodes for the cathodic protection system, but this depends on the type of metal they are made off.
The red looks like anti foaling paint, so would be suprised if it was of a luftwaffe a/c.

Hi All,
Many thanks everyone for the info, I emigrated here 3 years ago and thought not much aviation history here…:o

I have much to learn..:)

Hi David,
Many thanks for the detailed reply.

P.S.
Out of interest anyone know what stamped or inspection markings would identify metal of a/c built by them.

Hi
Think there was something in an profile publications magazine.
[not the old profile series], (they did one on the whirlwind as well)
The guy who did the F9/37 1/72nd resin ‘magna models’ may have info.
Don’t recall seeing anything at the PRO/NA.

Hi
Presumably as it is in a reservoir, it will be like those arado 196’s nr russia, can’t be touched for fear of contaminating the water supply with oil/fuel etc..

Hi
more photos.
jerry
Hi
never fully trust your own memory, he says mental note to ones self.
AM910 120Sq crashed nutt’s corner, nose was somewhere in linconshire until at least the late 60’s/early 70’s.
but it was the first Lib with the 20mm cannon pack.
I am sure someone recovered it.
cheers
Jerry
Hi All,
AM120? ( may have to check this ? )
I remember it was the first 20mm cannon armed RAF liberator thought it was recovered in the late 70’s early 80’s, first saw the photo in the baac magazine.
Think it was up near M4 somewhere.
cheers
Jerry
If they do then the fact that it was mounted over a hole in the underlying structure may be apparent as well.
Pete
Hi Pete,
Good eyes man.. I didn’t spot that ..

I just noticed that if you take the X away which seems to be joined across the top you end up with a serial of P 8645 are you sure this is from a hellicopter??
Hi
looks hard to make out the scratch marks,
could X mean ‘ex’
P8645 was a CBAF spit as mentioned, it all gets more interesting.
And could the P be an F ?
And the ‘4’ seems to have an ‘8’ underneath ?
Naill’s research, I have found thro’ experince to be spot on.:D
so the mod’s unless out of sequence ? would not been higher than 158, as he mentioned.
It’s all a bit of a mystery, why i started the thread out of curiosity.
Westlands are a hard nut to crack, first line of defence seems to be haven’t got anything…
Some drawings do exist, as other board members & fellow whirlwind researchers will confirm.
personally not sure it from a heli, just seemed a high number of mod’s, why I posted here for the expertise on the board.
Just a random,
could it be a engine mod plate of a wright whirlwind ?
Cheers

Jerry
I think you may be right in believing the data plate is from a Whirlwind heli rather than the original Whirlwind. The highest mod number I’m aware of for the Whirlwind fighter is Mod 158 – introduction of Mk III IFF. This was approved 16/12/43 – very late in the aircraft’s life -and then cancelled 1/2/44 shortly after the aircraft was declared obsolescent.

Hi Naill
Glad to hear from you again, thanks for the info.
