    brass models

    Hi All,
As I understand it they were not all just bakelite,
In the 70’s when researching a crash site, we came across a local guy who was, I think with the ROC and he had a collection of about 50 or 60 , brass models that he had not thrown away at the end of WW2.
When discussing this at work, with an ex Raf Lanc Flt Eng, he recalled that ground crew used to make them when their aircraft were out on ops, as a pastime, as they made many other things.
An Ex RN guy told me on convoys the tiffies made many items to pass away the time.
I have a large brass spitfire, I got in the 70’s but never really got into collecting them.

A link to a site with info on metal models
    http://www.mikes-tanks.com/AuthenticastAir.htm

just been reading a few search links, and it some say the original mould masters were made of brass.

But still at £77 it would have been out of my budget.
anyone know what the others went for ?
    Cheers
    Jerry

    Hi All,
In that case I would be better investing my money in a new pair of glasses.

I must admitt I have also thought of a wooden model , especially living here now.

    It actually grows on trees……
and petrol costs 55p a litre..
    I sometimes think I time travelled.:D

    hollywood remake

    Hi
No mention of b-17’s or julian clarey,
    So it might be realistic..

Anway as usual my driveway is available to the film crew to rent, They can just about sqeeze a lanc in the back yard. Assuming they make it in vancouver ( hollywood north )
And we also have a big dam nearby, but BC Hydro might get upset if they blow it up.
    Cheers

    photos

    Hi
    Thanks for the post.
I often wonder what aircraft will next turn up in luftwaffe markings, at least we all get to view them even if we all can’t afford the photos
and at least they are preserved by someone and not thrown away..
    cheers

force landed Whirlwind, St Nazaire (1944???)

    Hi All,
I’m on another rare visit to the board, just to correct the facts,
this aircraft is P7095 137 Sqn SF-H Hit by flak crashed near Doullen 23.1.43, Sgt Brown was killed.
Somewhat mysterious circumstances surround the incident, apparently he survived the crash but was later found dead, I would be most interested if anyone has any further info.
P7095, or parts of it eventually went to rechlin.

A very expensive purchase for the buyer of the photo,
copyright is either with the ecpa or westlands,
as both I think I recall have them, and can supply one cheaper and also the other five photos of P7095 in the series taken ……

of interest 137 also lost on this day P7054, W/O A I DOIG PoW, again any info on this would be of interest to me

In these cases the ‘(e)’ indicates the wing is configured with the .5 inch Browning machine gun in the inner bay with the 20 mm Hispano Cannon in the outer bay.

    Hi
    just curiosity, and slightly O/T
but if an a, b & c wing did exist,
what would the ‘d’ wing have been …
    a 2 x 40mm ? as per the hurricane ?

    or is my mind straying

    link

I don’t have any primary sources (i.e. period photographs) to hand as I’m still unpacking all my books after moving, but here is a link to an article on a model in the scheme that it represents (Werner Schroer’s ‘Red 1’ of 8./JG27) which gives some more details.

    Hi
Thanks for the reply and link, I am in a similar situation, We just recently moved ( to Vancouver ), and all my books/notes are still packed.

Er, the red rudder is on the Buchon, parked behind the Flug Werk. 😉

    dooh…… thought it was odd.

but still strange a luftwaffe a/c has a red rudder ?

    cheers

    red rudder

    Hi
interesting the red rudder, presumably the a/c has different markings on each side ?
Is the red rudder a genuine colur scheme / marking ?
Looking forward to seeing it this side of the pond.
    cheers

    green

The photo is very definitely the late Charles Green,

    .

    Hi
I am glad my memory is still working then,I thought it was him first, but as I said all my stuff is packed, so i wasn’t sure, I’m glad someone else was.

I wonder, 26th feb green shot down two JG2 190’s off exmouth,
I have photos of drummond and lucas in similar victory pose, after the shooting down on 15 Oct of two 190’s.
So the photo might have been taken on 26th feb ’43 at exeter airfield.
    cheers
    Jerry
