I think its a 1970/80’s 1000lb British tail fin as used on Vulcan’s etc. Ive a feeling that its a Mk114 tail or something like that.
Not part of a bomb sight but a Ground Position Indicator. The idea is that it sat above the Navigators chart table and powered via an Air Milage Unit would project a narrow light beam onto the chart directly below to show the position of the aircraft. What is the date on it? Without digging out the books the Wartime ones differed from the Postwar versions mainly in chart scale I think.
Even on a 25m range you would be lucky to get a nice pretty grouping like that confined to one panel. Most definately the victim of a Knights cross holder and bar in my opinion.
Looks to me like some prat has ruined a very nice panel with an ice axe 🙁
If its approximately 8″x18″ then they hold most common electronic aircraft equipment like IFF and Gee/H2S indicators.
Who owns the Mossy now?
No mention of the fact that it carried approximately the same bomb load as a B-17 either. :p
If anyone wants an original Wartime Auster mk4 Air Ambulance cockpit project then get in touch, its all there complete with probably the only surviving original issue Auster patient stretcher. The fuselage is from the engine firewall to halfway down the tail so perfect for transporting and an easy restoration. Too many other projects on the go to complete it myself.
Just checked other listings on craigslist and its full of spam ebay items that have already been sold.
Personally i would stay well clear or at least go up in person with cash. I apoligise in advance if i got the guy wrong but quite a lot of high value Ebay items have appeared on that site. Not sure if its the same listing but there was a Lancaster control wheel for sale along with a halifax one that i made enquiries about but the old six sense kicked in. The replies weren’t in the best of English and the address finally given to send a cheque was after googling a Chemists shop in Perth.
Seemed like a classic scam, only email replies, no telephone numbers and excuses about meeting up so i got cold feet and gave up.
Really sorry if i did get the seller wrong but please be cautious if your looking to buy if it is the same advert.
Great day out, well done Howard, the Exhibitors and the team at NAM!!!! Was a surprise to see so much stuff there. :applause:
Well done the RAFM, great work!!!! Now then, which one next?……….
How’s about an airfield Control tower? Definitely a labour of love and unfortunately a massive financial strain too 🙁
Chill Mr Merry 😮 It was an observation that the culprit pauses to read the inscription on the memorial that led me to believe that he wasn’t an average EDL member. Can’t be many of them that can do that!
I notice CCTV footage has now been released. Without wanting to make a stereotypical statement but in my humble opinion the chap does not look like an average EDL member. I’m with Percy on this one, time for a bit of back bone.
