Ground them now and decide on scrapping on further analysis
Immediate grounding surely is obvious. Thank goodness no fatalities.
Further analysis of the crash and the overall safety inspections of all the actual same model aircraft flying around the globe should then provide a decision whether the developed world send them all to the scrapyard and ban them from their airspaces.
Not quite a reply to your above question, but remember that hydrogen + oxygen = heat + water. However, as there is still a lot of money to be made from oil by greedy people, that kind of fuel is still a way off. For that reason, I am a bit of a conspiracy theorist as far as non-fossil fuel engines are concerned. I believe there already have been such inventions which have been quickly eliminated. Have a look on You Tube for hydrogen powered engines.
Hi 27 vet
Your comments are in keeping with many honest opinions about why ‘Detroit’ (and all global auto engine manufacturers) have really stayed (making bucks) with the internal combustion engines.
The same is true of aero engines.
I still believe that rather than my write a 12,000 word dissertation about Scottish Nationalists’ Politically correct gobbledegook about in/under sea Wave Machines and Wind Turbines (the medium to long term maintenence of which far outweighs any short term energy gains), I ‘d rather write something on a subject passionately close to my heart – aero engines of the future using less or non-fossil fuels.
I shall look as you sugegst on You Tube – Thanks
Saw one yesterday on LHR runway 27R
Saw one yesterday on runway 27R at LHR.
It wasn’t too bad.
Does anyone have more info on DA42 that flew at FIA on fuel derived from Algae
Does anyone have anymore information or comments on the DA42 that did a very short demo flight at FIA on Sunday 25 July. The commentator stated that it was flying on a fuel derived from Algae.
Given that I had a grandstand ticket and it was a great day for flying I missed making any contact on the stand with the companies concerned.

The engine is reportedly an Austro Engine AE300

Does anyone have any useful comments or further information in the way of URLs which cover the same combination of products?
Great pictures. Thanks.
It was announced on the show tannoy on Sunday 25 July just before the BBMF Lancaster took off to form up with the Spitfire and Hurricane for their display that word had just been received from No 10 Downing Street that funding for the BBMF was to continue.
It is 70 years since the Battle of Britain.
Last lot:
Hi Martin
Absolutely fantastic pictures. Thanks for sharing.
I am sorry to say that Rolls Royce is the one company that makes my heart sink when I see a research funding contract landing on my desk which has their name on it as I just know that contract negotiations will be “difficult”.
They are doing well at present – so I don’t see anything wrong with ‘difficult’ contract negotiations for research funding – it possibly means they are trying to be focussed on channels of research and define deliverables within their development ‘road maps’.
Uh……are you aware that PW engines have never been offered as an option for the 787?
The “optional” engine offered for the 787 is the “all new” GEnx engine offered by GE.
Apologies – yes they are GEnx with projected deliveries in 2012 (all tests going well prior to that). http://australianaviation.com.au/genx-powered-787-takes-off/
Now all we to do is wait for the A350XWB to take to the skies.
Rolls Royce have a monopoly on this plane and its doing really well orders wise. Well over 1,000 engines will need to be made at Derby to get them all airbourne. Exciting times for the UK.
Absolutely correct and this is in contrast to the Boeing 787 Dreamliner which awaits optional P&W engines still to be flight tested.
Hear, hear!
Rolls makes great engines…and I understand pretty good cars (Yes, I know it’s a seperate company but same heritage). A friend has a nice Phantom II and I once drove a 1990s model…but I digress.
The 787/Rolls combination will help change the way the world flies…certainly a lot greener than anything else out there.
The secret is Rolls Royce continuously pour in R&D funding back into their companies and this is the simple but effective way of staying ahead of the game.
They provide jobs for people (graduates and non graduates) interested in continously improving products – a never stand still moto.
On the flip side some manufacturing companies simply make something flog it to death and let the company go down the pan usually after the investors recoup their money along with large profits.
RR is not only making great strides in producing environmentally greener technical products, they are making other manufacturing companies literally go green with envy of RR’s successes.
I don’t need some stranger on the Internet to tell me to be proud of my country, thank you very much.
Apologies for offending you, there was no intention to do so.
Simply excited about the 787 and Rolls Royce and just for the record my country too.
Please feel free to delete my previous post 21 July 13:09 if it causes you or anyone else offence
Absolutely!
I dunno, the youth of today……
Youth, nearly old or old it all sells Rolls Royce which is what in these days of economic woes we want to hear, be part of and be proud of, that British R&D, design and manufacture once again returns this proud nation to it’s glory.
A leader not a follower, and staying ahead of the competition is what it’s all about.
Guys a toast to RR is called for I would say.
I specifically wanted to see the runway in my photos so I could see takeoffs/landings, so I trekked up a small hill where others had gathered and plonked my tripod in an appropriate spot
The A380 pic came out far better than I could have hoped for, I’m really pleased with it !
Sounds like you found the prime location, great pics. thanks
[QUOTE=92fis;1613498]Many thanks, here’s the others.QUOTE]
Great sets of pics. Thanks.
Opening day at Farnborough meant this bird recieved alot of attention.
Great pics, thanks.
Lovely lines and even more graceful in the air.
Nose is reminiscent as someone already said of the Comet/Caravelle.
Interesting wings.
