I have acknowledged that all of us will be looking in the dark for St Peter

Only if it makes the Moon vanish.

I have acknowledged that all of us will be looking in the dark for St Peter as not just the moon but a lot else catastrophic will have happened then and as the song goes “Knock Knock Knocking on heaven’s door”:D

Where can the new tracks go in as straight lines as possible ?

Where can the new tracks go in as straight lines as possible ?

Who is the geography and or geology expert (avoiding the Virgin Pendelino concept) and think of straight as possible tracks, – long deep tunnelling maybe?

    Hi Lance
    Tide tables
In my second sentence I acknowledged the availability of tide tables – historical and forward. I used to row occasionally in Aberdeen and the tide tables played havoc with planning any regular team outing. From day to day the times were predictable but so varied, hence the “used to row occasionally” comment.

    Coastal tide mills/estuary
I wasn’t certain that coastal tide mills would all be as effective in all locations as once you move into the estuary situation there are documented issues that come in against raised in favour of the environment –http://www.therenewableenergycentre.co.uk/wave-and-tidal-power/

My tongue was as usual in my cheek just forgot (was trying to cook my dinner – it’s in me now) to put a suitable ‘smilie’ in when I said in-landers would have to resort to bees wax candles. Of course I know how the national grid works and if they dismantle it then it’s land of long dark nights for most Southerners;)

Of course it works (I have seen convincing enough models but I have a problem extrapolating that for all of UK at present), but will small units in UK of varying technical strategies be the long term solution or the 10 or more Nukes safely managed and guarded? I have looked as you suggested at the French system it’s impressive.

Where I was born there are many hydro electric power – dams (artificial reservoirs) and in reality my youngest paternal uncle having done his post doctorate at Colorado based on the famous Hoover Dam was senior project engineer on three large successful dams – providing huge amounts of hydro electricity. Of course these reservoirs in a tropical country are rain dependent and although never yet have run completely dry have gone down to very dangerous levels. I must admit the valleys that they flooded even my uncle admitted were some very picturesque ones which I remember as a child.

What UK needs is to get to a surplus power situation using Nukes supplemented by smaller projects as backups for Nuke maintenance, and regular outlying island supply, etc

This though is a question – what of the so called glacier melt and changing sea levels – does this cause any problems with tidal power generation?

What goes in and what comes out ?

Okay a tide mill along the same lines of old. Sluice gate, reservoir, but what consistent tidal rise and flow can we be guaranteed for each location?

A mill yes as all it did was drive a few machines mechanically but what power would we get out and how consistent would the output be given coastal tidal flows change daily (albeit they can be predicted far ahead).

Again may be useful for outlying islands but for mainland Britain would you not almost have to fence the entire coastline with a continuous tide mill concept power generator houses.

Poor in-landers like Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Brum, Cambridge, Oxford and most of the home counties – back to candles made from bees wax possibly.

May work but limited in application and hardly likely to cope with power requirements for mainland Britain.

You don’t mean the concept version

If it’s hugged the unlimited lane banked circuit (I prefer hands free) and done the rally course at Millbrook with no difficulty then it probably is okay to good heading to excellent.

So where are we now? Low Cost High Speed Rail Link for UK

So where are we now? Low Cost High Speed Rail Link for UK

Well here we go – we take on the Irishman’s strategy, no toilet/1 toilet for train, no seats all strap hanging, no food or beverages, gambling on board, no luggage, what else can we take out, oh yes guard only standing in drivers cab like on London Underground Victoria Line;)

It may take billions finally provided it is the correct path

    Edited – CoC Rule 15

It may take billions finally provided it is the correct path but it’s better than chucking it at corrupt banks calling trading in investments “Investment Banking” with the emphasis on the second word being hurriedly deleted which is what the government wishes to define as ‘ring fencing’.
Banks given a chance at survival 😉 – investment trading – sink or swim it’s your own damm fault if you drown.

Oh goodness that Irish racehorse owner is in this too – its descended to horse manure

There is something of the Ryanair syndrome afoot here. Travel method is slammed at the same as more and more people use it. Mmmm.

Oh goodness that Irish racehorse owner is in this too – its descended to horse manure then 😮
The mention of that LCC’s name could make this thread go t.ts up in a big way.;)
