ICAO making the proposals means that the BEA recommendations were sound

Reported responsibly and in a favourable tone by the WSJ yesterday is even better news and support as there are large expanses of water between the USA and Europe, USA and the Far East and USA and Australasia.
AlphaZulu refers to ‘ejection’ and the ICAO suggests the CVR and FDR should float.
How and when do they ‘eject’ or ‘break free’ is the question that still is one for the experts to answer. Also will this action be followed by an automatic inflation of a floatation collar or something similar.
It will be expensive (development and retro fitting) and any advanced development enhancing the rapid investigation of an aircraft being lost is in my opinion money well spent.

The article by David Pearson tiled “Group seeks upgrade for black boxes” raises some future hopes and aspirations of ICAO.
Short to medium term – “making the radio beacons of the flight recorders last 3 times longer than the present 30 days,
making them emit more powerful signals to be detectable up to 9 km away instead of the present 2 km away”
“…Over the longer-term, the ICAO wants aircraft to be able to transmit data on their positions and other parameters permanently so that they’re never completely out of contact with the ground, Mr. Benjamin’s chief of staff, Daniel Azema, said. That will probably involve transmitting data by satellite, as the bandwidth requirement will be so great for such large volumes of data, he said…”
I personally have mooted this aspect when AF447 originally went down from my past 21 years of sharp end disaster tolerant information systems management and would love to be involved in the furtherance of such work. Canada’s Bombardier already have some of this in place.
ICAO also want to ensure that the recorders float if the aircraft crashes into water.
On this one aspect I have a question/s for the more technically knowledgeable on this forum.
Does it at present mean that the FDR and CVR are fitted with a guarantee of ‘break free’ from enclosing airframe structure or will this be a new innovation and what if any will be the criteria applied to provide a ‘break free’ action from structure of both FDR and CVR ?
Extremely sad as it sounds like he was a committed pilot

Sometimes committed people take the world on their shoulder’s while the majority of other’s couldn’t care a ‘yot’.
Very sad news. Condolences to those bereaved.
The scepticism was over whether it was the real Saddam or one of his many doubles
I don’t remember any scepticism over Hussein he was captured, put on trial, and a recorded execution took place, all processes which we witnessed through our media.
To my mind something like this should have occured this time, to have shown transparency and to avoid silly rumours and gossip.
The scepticism was initially over whether it was the real Saddam or one of his many reported doubles that was initially captured.
While agreeing with what you suggest that in ideal circumstances there should have been a trial we aren’t yet privy (may never be) as to what actually went on with OBL’s end.
What ever the circumstances there are so many radicals willing to stand for OBL’s cause (If he ever had one apart from being a maniac), therefore my point is that we who share the ideals of Christian democracies should be extra vigilant in the aftermath of this recent news.

That’s how politics survives and crooked business stays alive – naive journalists

Hi VeeOne
There is so much mis-representation or distortion (deliberate or through sheer ignorance) by journalists that crooked politicians and crooked business stay alive.
Feed a naive (un professional non investigative) journalist with ‘fodder’ and they will ‘munch’ happily and regurgitate the ‘rubbish’ extrapolated hundred fold.
Scepticism or not a precedent set was the demise of Sadadm Hussein
Scepticism or not a precedent set was the demise of Saddam Hussein
I think there was scepticism at first when Saddam Hussein was eliminated, and similarly there is now in the case of OBL.
Grotesque though they are some pics of the corpse are bound to already be on classified files and possibly will find their way into the public glare soon.
Remaining extra vigilant and not provoking OBL sympathisers is what’s important from now forwards.

If you go BA T5 at LHR is a cinch
(I’m sure catching a plane from LHR is a time consuming thing).
AJ
Not if you fly BA as T5 is dedicated to BA and the return check-in including security check (pre boarding picture, bag screening, personal screening) are usually handled very quickly.
Presuming of course that you are hoping to take a regulation size carry on.
It’s been slick at T5 each time I have travelled and relatively faster than EDI which does not have as many security channels open.
Good news and now to await the results from the investigation team

CVR looks intact just hope that data from both are capable of being interpreted (so long in extreme conditions) especially the CSMU that was found detached from the FDR
Great pics – thanks
Really good day at Scotland’s busiest airport. 🙂 (all photos between 08.00 and 13.00)
a small portion of this mornings many movements.
Hi Robert
Great pics – thanks.
Incidentally where do you stand at EDI to get these shots ?
Exceptionally nice wit
I wasn’t aware they took Bins out on bank holidays :diablo:
I’ll get my coat

I’m glad the world is rid of a menace but it is necessary to be extra vigilant
I’m glad the world is rid of a menace but it is necessary to be extra vigilant
It is indeed tragic that this took so long as during the gap between 9/11 and now the maniac has managed to amass thousands of ‘Jihadi’ followers all over the globe.
It is necessary to be grateful to the SEALs (if that’s who finally succeeded) but it is also very necessary to be extra vigilant and more so not be annoyed if there continues to be heightened security at airports and other strategic buildings.
There are many lunatics who are out there willing to ‘carry the torch’ even though their mad leader is no more.
