You’ve opened up another RyanAir free publicity thread

Just booked flight from Liverpool to Malaga 21st May and Girona to Liverpool on 29th May. So 8 days driving up the Spanish coast from Malaga to Barcelona area. Great flight times. £80 total coast. Ok they add £15 for checked in bag, £6 card fee, £6 online check-in but so what, it’s only £80. Bargain. I remember the time when you didn’t have these budget airlines and had to buy extremely expensive open jaw tickets. Well done Ryanair – I don’t mind if it cost me £1 for a piddle on the way.

    Hi Culpano
You’ve opened up another RyanAir free publicity thread. I am not convinced you have a bargain at all – ‘enjoy’ it though since you chose it.

Why do people moan about RyanAir, you ask; because in most people’s opinions they are simply not much cop and are constantly blowing off ‘hot air’ with ridiculous cheap publicity statements.

Nice pics thanks, hope its not babies as crew though:rolleyes:

Not a great advertisement for a ‘paint shop’ though – notice the severe lack of paint on upper part of hanger structure:D
Sure needs a lick of paint.

Has anyone got a better transcript for ATC and AF007 and Comair

Has anyone got a better transcript for ATC and AF007 and Comair

My amateur ears pick up the following crucial dialogue/s in the http://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/wiki.php?id=121691.

ATC: Air France 7 super Runway 22 Right turn left on Alpha, Hold Short Echo

7 Super: Left from Alpha (then garbled)

ATC: Air France 7 Super (garbled)

ATC: Air France 7 Super hold short! (momentary hesitation and change of instructions) Give way to opposite direction traffic at Kilo Delta

7 Super: Give way to ‘opposition’ (at least that is what I hear in a French accent)

    Then Comair 553 reports collision.

Each time I watch the video I must admit it takes me back to childhood Dinky Toys

Each time I watch the video I must admit it takes me back to childhood Dinky Toys.

I had a Super Constellation, Avro York, Vickers Viscount and many others and my father had kindly constructed for me out of plywood a complete airport with hangars, runways, taxiways and aprons.

It was always a case of the wing peripheries of the Super Constellation over hanging the edges of the taxiways so there is the slight similarity of this collision at JFK. While saying that I am not stating that the Airbus A-380’s wings were wider than the taxiway. What appears to be case though is that the CRJ’s tail had not cleared the taxiway fully when the Airbus A-380 came along to the intersection.

The pax and crew of the CRJ were very very lucky as it appears watching the video that the CRJ pivots through 90 deg on (albeit for seconds) the starboard undercarriage (simply tossed out of the way by the giant Airbus A-380)

Some of the problems of handling the Airbus A-380 – it’s size and capacity have not been obviously fully resolved even at major international airports.

There is hope after the 21 April with the salvage commencing

There is hope after the 21 April with the salvage commencing. There are remains of bodies and possibly for many bereaved relatives there can be hopefully closure when they lay their loved ones to final rest.

    Quoting http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-13057612

    “……. sensors.

The French transport ministry has said that the ship Ile de Sein, which is equipped with a remotely-operated submarine, will leave Cape Verde on 21 April to begin retrieving parts of the wreckage.

The bodies of many of the victims were also found at the site. ………”

With the progress in modern technology the days of anything similar to the mystery of the ‘Marie Celeste’ are over as they usually find wreckage, albeit it takes time and money.

If those Black Boxes ‘talk’ then their ruggedness is proven

If those Black Boxes ‘talk’ then their ruggedness is proven after so long under such extreme conditions.

For the sake of closure for the many bereaved I hope they do find both CVR and FDR and that they can obtain the necessary information to solve the mystery of AF447.

It does look very promising now from the news report.

Thanks KabirT for posting the update URL

Some more interesting facts of the area where the collision occurred

Some more interesting facts of the area where the collision occurred

    http://www.eaa.org/news/2011/2011-04-12_airbus.asp

It includes some diagrams and a satellite image of the collision area.

“……..The length of taxiway Mike from the north edge of Alpha, across the perimeter road to the beginning of the ramp area, is very short. It is unclear where exactly the CRJ was stopped in this area and for how long. When given instructions to taxi to a ramp area, aircraft are not supposed to stop on taxiways unless they advise ground control ahead of time. The Delta ramp area may have been too congested for the CRJ to fully clear the taxiway.

In the case of the Airbus, all aircraft in motion are to ensure that their movement will not cause a collision. From the center of an A380 to one of its wingtips is 130.9 feet. The NTSB will look into the circumstances of this collision and future issues such as if Alpha taxiway is an appropriate route for the A380 and other larger aircraft. ………”

“…..With the Comair CRJ-700 on Taxiway Mike, Air France Flight 7, an Airbus A380-800 (388) was taxing on Taxiway Alpha towards its departure runway….
……but at the moment one question seems to stand out … where exactly was the Comair CRJ-700′s tail?…
…..With the Airbus A380 on Taxiway Alpha, taxing on the centerline, its wingspan of 261.6 feet should not have extended beyond the 284 foot width of Taxiway Alpha…..
……Watching the video and listening to Tower audio of the incident of the incident, it appears that the controller in the tower did not properly space the aircraft to ensure that the Comair CRJ-700 was full onto Taxiway Mike before allowing the Air France A380 to cross the intersection.”

On Boeing and RFIDs – certainly Boeing are seen to be interested …

On Boeing and RFIDs – certainly Boeing are seen to be interested … but it does not answer the question I have posed in the post above – whether Boeing use passive RFIDs in their ‘workhorse’ 737 NG ?

    See URLs –
    http://www.mcoconnor.com/clips/pdfs/rfidjournal_boeing_oconnor.pdf
(the concepts in the paper above are possible but it will take a lot to clear safety as it is inflight not purely passive RFIDs)
    http://www.aviationweek.com/aw/generic/story_channel.jsp?channel=mro&id=news/om311xtra1.xml (passive RFIDs do-able now)

Al Jazeera seems to be the only one making this ‘noise’ …..

Al Jazeera seems to be the only one making this ‘noise’ …..

I keep an open mind but in the US if this was as serious as the widespread coverage Al Jazeera is giving to it all over the internet, by now US investigative reporters would have been raking it in with coverage.

Does anyone know if RFIDs are used by Boeing and it’s subcontractors to track parts on the 737 NG?

By this I mean that if there is any substance in the allegations in the video (other world manufacturers in the automotive trade have been hit recently with serious quality issues impacting on safety) can the supposed parts (seem large enough to be RFID tracked if RFIDs were used initially) not be tracked on existing aircraft in service?

Yes I recognise chasing quality is expensive but if there is a compromise the alternative is lives lost in a catastrophic way.

At present I see the programme as a smear campaign.
