agreed – but someone in DND will find a native/mythical word to ‘offically’ name it so as not to ‘offend’ any of the linguistically sensitive (like the ‘Chimo’ which was the designated name for one of the originally ordered/cancelled/reordered EH-101 variants)
the same physics gave the Huey its distinctive ‘whop, whop, whop’
a thing of beauty… I can only imagine the sound
I must be working too hard – I didn’t look too closely at the sign – I saw it reading ‘BAHAT’ – I’ll check into the December 1.
My friend is down there working for AirServ… he’s station manager or soemthing like that – coordinating air movements and air logistics in support of the NGOs in the area.
B-26K counter Invader
PW123AF turboprops
ACES-II ejection seats
glass cockpit with integrated satelite imagery downlink/GPS Nav system
rework wings and empenage with composites to lighten/strengthen
M61 Vulcan lower-fuselage bore-sighted to pilot’s line of sight
and she can carry/drop anything that you throw at her.
Now THAT’S COIN/CAS!
Merlock… Some days I wish I was there, alas, I only post the photos – its my buddy who has to work in it (oh what a bad bad boy he must have been in a previous life) I’ll just settle for the glorious (dust free) high20s – low 30s of south eastern Canadian summer and drool over the subject matter.
And here’s another ‘Regional Airport’ I think the translation is a bit off. (I’m not positive but I believe its actually Batha.)
And some of the Government troops as mentioned previously… gotta love the ‘urban’ camouflage on their kit… fits right in at the local laundromat. (note the somewhat ‘secretive’ vantage point of the photograph)

No worries… so long as he’s alive, I get the pics…. hehehe
Today’s addition – and I mean today another Chadian Herc. Due to some rebel troubles the military was flown in to ‘secure’ the area.
And a pretty sunrise looking east down the runway.
Merlock… yes those were at Abeche last week – something like 2 storms in 3 days or something like that.
Sukhoi ‘Flank – HER’ and her and her and..
Give this one a try – It may be a bit fuzzy but it has visible rivet/fastener lines
Not sure of the scale but with a few measurements and a little research, it should be easy to figure out.
JJ.
the joys of Flash… what you see is what you get
Print Screen and paste into a new doc in Photoshop and Save As…
Hmmm… now thats a good one.
I think it will be a close race but only between BAE Systems and Aermacchi with the Hawk just nosing out the ‘346. I think the UAE will remain a little more conservative and not take the chance on the Golden Eagle. The lineage of the Hawk speak for itself – and probably will for another 30 years. It’ll be the little things that win the contract (and no, I’m not talking about how many people get desk-top models or golf-shirts). It could even go toward leasing like NFTC. And, with one big happy Hawk operator in the neighbourhood…
JJ
Cheer!
Here’s a couple of the sand storms this week and an idea of the, er, facilities… this is all in support of the refugee relief operations. He just missed getting me a shot of a French Herc today.
and the latest material from Chad… all at Abeche
Chadian C-130
Armee de Terre Puma
Twin Otter
I’ll post the sandstorm shots later
Here’s one for Canpark…
After checing out his website – he was there around the same time as me – we almost followed the same paths. (but he had the luck/presence of mind/lack of beer to see and shoot this)

uhhh, no
the German effort in the Soviet Union was ill-advised (it may have succeeded had a certain someone only waited a year, but thats neither here nor there). Whether or not the US joined the war is irrelevant… the Soviets, through their ‘endless’ manpower, and natural resources would have kicked Adolph’s heinie regardless.
But thats all irrelevant – can the carriers stay in the Naval Aviation sub-forum?
